Fireman Sam Saves the Circus came to The Waterside Theatre Aylesbury today Saturday 30th September. We have been looking forward to this all week, maybe more than the little people in our world! The Waterside is one of my favourite theatres, and despite being a Saturday it was still really easy to use the parking right next door. We arrived only just before the performance, due to traffic, which was a real shame as a real life Fireman Sam in the form of the local fire brigade and fireman were outside the theatre with their Fire engine! It took some persuading to get the little people into the theatre to watch the show!!
The live show Fireman Sam saves the Circus is just over an hour long, so I would recommend taking snacks and drinks with you. We only had minutes to spare so didn’t have time to hire a booster seat for our little people who are aged two and three years, I really would recommend making the time for this as we could have done with them during the show.
All the children were super excited for the show to start as who doesn’t love Fireman Sam and all his friends. The kids were completely in awe to see their favourite characters up on the stage, everyone is there, Sam, Elvis, Penny, Station Officer Steele and of course Norman Price. They are full size characters and very interactive with the audience. It took a while for our little people to take to the format but they were soon jumping up and down smiling and laughing at the antics on stage. It very much follows the format of the shows, which is good, and you feel very much like you are in an adventure with them all in Pontypandy.
When the Circus comes to town and the Circus Master loses his tiger, our children said they were scared, they didn’t want a tiger to get them! We won’t spoil it, but needless to say there wasn’t a tiger loose in the theatre, and of course in amongst the chaos was Norman!
The show was a great experience for children, an early introduction to theatre, although our two year old became a bit fidgety, however the three year old didn’t want it to end. Everyone up on stage worked hard to keep all the audience entertained and to be honest an hour was just about right for the ages it was aimed at (there is no interval) and the story fitted perfectly into this amount of time. The outfits of the circus acts were bright and colourful, which the children loved. Although they shouldn’t have they loved it when the circus tent caught fire and Fireman Sam and his crew had to save the day. Lots of singing kept us cadets involved. It’s a great morning or afternoon out for children, who can’t quite believe they are in the room with their favourite characters, ours kept asking to go up on the stage! So it was a great time had by all.
