Good earphones are the holy grail for many audiophiles and once discovered they are revered. So let me tell you about Edifier’s TWS1 Pro (true wireless stereo 1). This is a review piece and I was keen to give it a whirl. I’m less of an audiophile but I like to have a decent set of earphones for work, for the school run and around the house. My daughters are addicts with a constant pour of music in their ears, or at least one at any time.
We tested TWS1 Pro with a variety of sources, an audiobook. I’m pleased with the result, the voices are clear and nuanced. Calls are crisp and clear. The music sound quality is really pleasing and I could thoroughly enjoy my audio choices.

The next test was that of my junior audio addicts and both teens tried them out with online calls and gaming comms. Both reported comfort with the earphones themselves, this is something not every product can boast. My daughters are fairly standard build but can’t always find earphones to fit comfortably in the ear. In this case there are three different sizes of rubberised covers to fit in the ear more comfortably. We all needed the smallest. The cover is easy to change to your preferred size and pulls into place with little resistance, then staying in place securely. The fitting of the cover is going to have impact on the comfort and fit for the individual user, a good fit will help the earphone to stay in the ear without become dislodged. True enough, one of my girls took them for the walk to school and found they stayed in place and quite comfortably. The body of the earphones is larger and sits in the shell of the ear. Visually I half expected this to be cumbersome and problematic but we discovered them to be quite comfortable, carefully designed to be sure the shape is barely noticed.

So with the comfort, size and audio capability covered it’s time for the technical details.
The TWS1Pro comes in a charging case. It’s small enough to fit comfortably in a pocket – even women’s practically non-existent pockets. This keeps them safe and charging in between uses too. I love this feature in particular. Furthermore when putting the earbuds back into the case they magnetically slip back into just the right position. So there is absolutely no doubt they are in place exactly where they need to be and will successfully charge. It feels secure and reassuring. There’s a tiny LED light at the front of the case to easily let you know the status of charging too.
Edifier detail a “revolutionary 12-hour playback time after a single charge” which in an increase on their previous generation product and the charging case offers a further 30 hours additional charge and that is detailed on the website as a total playback time of 42 hours. That’s time to travel most places in the world. Then of course it’s only 1.5 hours to charge the earbuds themselves and 40 minutes for the case. This seems really simplistic to ensure you have constant access to audio via TWS1 Pro earbuds. There’s miniscule blue light in the body of the earbud which will flash slowly indicating use after successful pairing. And the same light is red and blue whilst pairing, you’ll know they’re doing what they should.

These earphones can brag waterproof and dust prevention status, tested professionally of course. That’s got to be useful for travelling, weather conditions, hot conditions and sport activity.
Because the earbuds are operated via Bluetooth I wanted to check how consistent they were in terms of connection. No one enjoys tricky calls with interruption or a livestream full of audio glitches. In our review tests on a stable internet connection we found the Bluetooth V5.2 connection to be excellent, never dropping sound, connecting quickly and remaining in consistent connection throughout use. The Bluetooth V5.2 apparently means there’s a lesser power consumption and faster transmission, again an upgrade. I found I could wander some distance from my device wearing the earphones too and without disruption. Edifier suggest the distance would be 10 metres, plenty of room to move around the home, office and probably garden without having to carry your source device around.
The earbud use is simplistic enough, but as with any device it takes a minute to adjust. You can answer calls, pause, turn up the volume and down too, click onto the next track, or go back to the previous, using the click operation on the earbuds. I’ve turned them off a number of times simply by taking them out. But the adjustment is coming slowly and the instructions are in a tiny and very straight forward booklet inside the box.
They can be used one at a time, my daughters preference – so they can hear environmental sound around them at the same time and will quickly rejoin sound in stereo when used together. This is a feature that I like, better for safety when walking alone and being able to pay attention to vehicles and people whilst still indulging in a favourite podcast.
Priced at under £50 these would make an excellent and good quality gift for any teen or adult wanting to enjoy a good standard of audio equipment.
Our testing example were a pair of the grey-black earbuds but for a range of diversity they are available in a neutral cream and candy pink too. I’d definitely recommend the TWS1 Pro Earbuds without hesitation.
