The Last American Virgin is a 1982 coming-of-age comedy/drama following the life lives of 3 high school teens who love nothing more than partying and picking up girls.
Gary (Lawrence Monoson), Rick (Steve Antin) and David (Joe Rubbo) are best friends who do everything together. They are typical high school boys interested in parties, girls and sex until one day a new girl arrives at school. Gary and Rick both fall for Karen (Diane Franklin) but could this be the end of the friendship when she comes between them?
Overall, The Last American Virgin starts off as a comedy dealing with parties, drink, drugs and sex but then changes to more serious subjects giving a realistic twist to the ending. While starting as a raucous teen comedy it soon becomes a very realistic drama actually making it worthwhile watching. It was actually a surprise to see the twist on what I thought would be yet another run of the mill high school teenage film.
The second part of the film makes it worth watching and the soundtrack is great. Don’t expect a hilarious, laugh-a-minute film but stick with it and you will enjoy it. It will show the harsh realities of growing up as a teenager and how life is not as easy as you expect it to be.
