I was asked to take on the terrible task of reviewing a selection of Godiva chocolates, it’s a hard task but someone had to do it! The chocolates came nicely but very simply packaged in a clear film bag with a ribbon, there was a selection of 9 chocolates of varying types. In this kind of selection there is no menu to help you chose your favourite so it’s like a tasty lucky dip.
Now I will admit here that I am a chocolate lover and do buy good quality chocolates fairly often, however I haven’t bought Godiva before so was keen to try them. The individual chocolates were nicely substantial with a decent balance of flavour and texture, they are not too sweet either which I really liked as I find some chocolates, from other well known brands, too sweet for my taste. There was a good balanced mixture of milk, plain and white chocolate truffles in the selection with a variety of centres, some praline some with larger nut pieces. I’m not going to list all the combinations as I may get some of the terminology wrong and there may be some variety among selections however there should be something to everyone’s taste.
These are definitely a cut above truffles from somewhere like the more readily available high street shops however I was slightly disappointed as I was hoping to be completely blown away instead I was left slightly underwhelmed at the depth of flavour in some of the selection. I have had much worse without a doubt but I have also had better.
A selection of this size and type is ideal as a special touch to go along side a bouquet of roses on Valentines Day, and I think most ladies would appreciate the hint of luxury that goes along with the Godiva name.
All in all they were a very nice, though not utterly outstanding collection.
