I was very excited to see this as I adore 60s music, and love watching a musical. I hadn’t seen Dreamboats and Petticoats but that isn’t essential. Before going to see it I read the overview as follows:

“It’s 1963, and the world is changing. Bobby and Laura’s single Dreamboats and Petticoats has not taken off. Norman and Sue have settled down to non-marital bliss – and a baby! But Ray and Donna seem blissfully happy…The advent of the Beatles and the Merseyside sound is inspirational. But will it inspire Bobby and Laura to have one more shot at stardom – Norman to “get off the drains” and find that singing voice he has longed for, and Ray to realise his ambition and manage a really top pop act!? All will be revealed in a follow up with the same wit, charm, and great songs as Dreamboats and Petticoats. Many of the songs are from the next period in pop history…”

We went to the Milton Keynes Theatre in Milton Keynes. There was ample pay and display parking nearby, and after 6pm parking where we were (next to John Lewis) was free. The theatre was clean, welcoming and had a wonderful ambience with a pianist playing the grand piano. We were met at the door and warmly welcomed by the staff. All the staff that we interacted with were very helpful and polite. The toilets were lovely and clean and easy to find.

The atmosphere in the theatre was one of excitement and the auditorium nearly full. The set was simple yet functional and it ensured that the scene changes were fluid. From the outset the performances were outstanding. The musical numbers were well chosen and the way the dialogue led into the musical numbers was seamless. Many members of the audience were dancing in their seats, and the energy projected by the performers ensured that a good time was had by all!

Alex Beaumont portrayed Bobby and Elizabeth Carter was Laura. Both of these actors were outstanding in their performances, Alex’s singing in particular was superb and he showed the great range that he has. All the cast were amazing maintaining their energy levels at all times. The costumes were fabulous and the dancing had me bopping in my seat.

My mum and I thoroughly enjoyed it, and we both now want to see the prequel Dreamboats and Petticoats. I highly recommend going to see this show and give it a 5/5!!

A must see!
