I’m a big fan of theatre, and also a huge fan of the supernatural… put them together and that gives you… Dracula! I’ve never read Bram Stoker’s Dracula, nor have I seen any adaptations so needless to say, I’m very excited by what’s in store. The Blackeyed Theatre brings Bram Stoker’s DRACULA to the Lighthouse for shows between 13th until 15th March. Blackeyed Theatre is a touring company who will bring us a contemporary adaptation by Nick Lane with original music composed by Tristan Parkes.
Set in the late 1800s we are transported back in time to an era where something strange lurks in the shadows. We follow a group led by Professor Van Helsing who fights for their survival. We are transported from the capital London, into rural England, then onto the mountainous wastes of Transylvania. Bram Stoker’s timeless gothic thriller embodies the struggle to break taboos, resist temptation and stop the unknown outside becoming the enemy within.
The cast of six, including Maya-Nika Bewley, David Chafer, Richard Keightley, Pelé Kelland-Beau, Marie Osman and Harry Rundle are set to deliver a performance to remember, with haunting audio and innovative set designs. This makes me so excited for opening night.
I am excited to see what the night has in store, having seen some of the reviews from The Stage.
“One of the most innovative, audacious companies working in contemporary English theatre,”
“An absorbing, atmospheric retelling of Bram Stoker’s horror classic”
Expect a running time of 135 minutes plus an Interval. It is recommended that anyone who wishes to watch should be over 12 years of age as there are some scenes of threat and violence.
