On receiving this game I was quite intrigued by it due to its name Scabs n’ Guts. I gave it to my nieces to play, ages 11 and 13, and they were constantly in fits of giggles and grossed out but both loved it and have played several times since. The aim of the game is to answer all your questions about the human body and make your way to the end space at the top of the board, first one there wins.

Box contents:
1 game board, 6 mover pieces, 130 question cards, 32 wild card, 1 player guide

Game Setup
Setup is easy and quick. Put the board on the table and then each player must choose a mover piece (there are six to choose from: lungs, brain, heart, liver, stomach and guts) and place it on the start space at the top of the board. Shuffle all the cards into one deck and put them face down near the board. Now you are ready to start. Suitable for 2-6 players from age 6+.

Game Play
To start there is a very strange rule that had the kids in giggles before even starting, the player with the cleanest fingernails goes first. The first player then picks a category from Scrapes & Scabs (this promotes basic health like hygiene, infections and wounds), Blood & Guts (this covers our blood stream, internal organs and highlights the benefits of vitamins and antibiotics) or Blubber or Brawny (this covers positive health choices like healthy eating and exercise). The player to the left picks up a card from the deck and reads the relevant question i.e. “What part of your blood helps form scabs?” If it is answered correctly move your piece by the amount directed on the card, if wrong stay where you are. They next person then gets a question. Depending on what space you land on will determine what question you get, if you land on ‘Pick A Category’ you can choose. If you receive a wild card you have to follow what it says on the card. Whoever reaches the end space first is the winner.

Overall
Although this game sounds quite disgusting it is actually brilliant, not only did the kids have lots of fun playing but they were learning facts about the human body and living a healthy lifestyle without even knowing it. For the younger children they may need some help reading some of the medical terms of the card. Next to each question is also a fact about that question ‘Why poo smells.” Very easy to setup and play and a great game just for the kids or for the whole family to play.

Educational fun and highly recommended. At around £14.99 it is excellent value for money for the fun factor alone but the educational side makes it so much better.
