Deliver Us From Evil Review
Deliver Us From Evil

Deliver Us From Evil is a Danish thriller with English subtitles, which did spoil it to a certain extent, but on the other hand it made sure you kept your eyes on the screen. It’s the first time I’ve ever watched a subtitled film from start to finish, so it did keep me interested.
It is based around a small Danish village, its residents and the death of a local elderly resident.
The film begins with a woman walking along the road who introduces us to all of the important characters in the story. Lars is quite an undesirable character, who drives a HGV whilst drunk and abuses his pretty little girlfriend. Lars’ brother Johannes on the other hand, is married to a stunning lady, two lovely children living in a big house which he is renovating. It all goes wrong when Lars is drunk, driving his wagon and then tries to light a cigarette, at which point he hits and kills an elderly woman on her scooter. He drags her body off the road and gathers some evidence which he then plants on Alain (a Bosnian immigrant with mental issues who helps out Johannes). When the husband of the dead woman finds the evidence, the local drunken residents decide to try and take justice into their own hands. At which point Johannes is the only one who can save Alain from these men and women who want to seek their revenge.
As the film gets into the final third it has you gripped, wondering what on earth is going to happen next! There is some great acting, action-packed scenes and a few twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.
