I am near to weaning my second child and for my first had spent a lot of time researching dinner sets for this process and beyond. The well known Swedish brand Dantoy have branched out into this market with their ‘Tiny Dinnertime’ range. I was keen to try their ‘Tiny Biobased Dinner gift set’ since we already have several of their products.
On first glance, the product is nicely packaged in a stylish simple but well constructed recycled cardboard box which easily opens without any ripping of the box. No excess packing is present and the design incorporates open windows within the box to see and touch aspects of the product, and various bits of product information is also printed on it. When you open the box, two puree recipes are printed on the inner slip which I thought was a nice touch.

The dinner set includes a plate, bowl, cup and cutlery set (knife, fork and spoon). What is clever is the plate can be used alone with three divided sections to separate foods, or as a tray like feature where the bowl and cup can be contained within sections. The sippy cup is also cleverly designed to have lid which can easily be removed to be used as an open cup as your child develops their drinking skills. The whole set is very light and perfect for little hands to manage. The size also seems great, as all items are large enough to be used by older children (plate is 7 by 7.5 cm). The cutlery is beautifully smooth, so no sharp edges, and yet all able to function as required. Part of their biobased range, this dinner set is made from Bioplastic (produced from sugar cane)which is claimed to be 100% recyclable and 100% sustainable. I received the mocca design, however the full set can be purchased in olive, cream or red as well. The colours themselves are muted and much nicer on the adult eye than many children’s dinner sets and certainly would look good in any kitchen. I also think these plain colours enable the items to have far more longevity of use than other more childish looking items, further increasing their sustainability as parents do not need to buy replacements as the child matures into toddlerhood. Items can be purchased in pairs (eg two further bowls) as well to allow you to be able to mix and match multiple sets as required.

Very importantly the dinner set is fully dishwasher and microwave safe which as a busy parent I think is crucial. Surprisingly both of these features are not always the case for baby dinner sets so to be both is certainly a big pro!
A final feature which would have fully completed this set for me would be a lid for the bowl to enable food to be stored and reheated within in, avoiding the need for extra Tupperware.
Advertised as safe from 0+ months, this product is perfect for your child’s initial weaning journey and well beyond into their mealtimes. A great product for any parent with young children or I think would be a great gift set to buy for any parent to be.
