I was really pleased to be asked to review some of the items from the new summer menu at Costa Coffee as it’s one of my favourite places to go for a treat and I don’t often get the chance.
My partner and I visited Costa on a Saturday afternoon for some much needed refreshment after a busy shopping trip and were very impressed with the number of items on the new summer menu. We really were spoilt for choice as there were numerous creamy coolers and fruity coolers or you could choose to have any of the coffees from the usual Costa menu iced, including the chai latte which is my absolute favourite hot drink! There were also some new yummy looking summer cakes to tempt us.
After much deliberation we made our decision. I went for a medium Mint Choc Chip Creamy Cooler, my partner plumped for a large Blackberry and Raspberry Fruity Cooler and we also treated ourselves to a slice of Morello Cherry and Vanilla cake.
The Mint Choc Chip cooler was blended with ice and topped with whipped cream, which was optional, and came in a plastic cup with a lid and straw/spoon to drink it with. It looked like a pale green milkshake and was very tasty. The mint was refreshing but not too strong and the chocolate chips added texture and crunch which was really nice, I also convinced myself that it was more healthy than a normal milkshake as it was blended with so much ice (I didn’t check the calorie content!). The only downside for me was that it was very cold and I did struggle to finish it so next time I would go for a small size!
The blackberry and raspberry fruity cooler was also blended with ice and came in a plastic cup with lid and straw/spoon and was absolutely delicious. It was a lovely deep red purple colour and was so fruity and just the right balance of tanginess and sweetness. It had a real depth of flavour and was so refreshing, just what we needed after our shopping trip. We were glad we had chosen a large size and would definitely have one of these again. We would also like to try the other flavours in the range.
Finally we attacked our slice of Morello cherry and vanilla cake which was a sponge cake layered with cherry jam and vanilla buttercream and topped with vanilla buttercream and a cherry. It was yummy, really fresh and moist and there was a nice balance between the fruity jam and the sweet vanilla. It was really good for an indulgent treat and I would definitely have it again.
All in all we were very impressed with the items we tried and are looking forward to trying out some more of the Costa summer range in the coming months.
