Belton at Christmas, It was such a pleasure to be able to visit tonight. Belton house is well sign posted due to its National trust status, and we found it easy to get to. We found all the staff to be lovely and helpful, they were still smiling despite the cold and rain. As you enter the courtyard you will find some food trucks, the coffee shop, also the gift shop. I can recommend the Christmas pizza and the curry truck. Food ranged from £9 for a basic pizza, curry from £8, loaded chips around £10, and crepes from £6. There’s plenty of seating both indoors and out, regardless of where you buy the food from. There are a few old fashioned fairground rides, a helter-skelter, rowing boats and a carousel, which are to be paid for separately.
As you enter the garden, you are hit by the lights and sound which are amazing, enticing you deeper into the garden. The pathways are all ropped off ensuring you don’t get lost or miss anything. As you walk around each section of lights they have their own music playing which helps to enhance the scenery, and Christmas feeling, from classic Christmas songs to pop songs, not forgetting the frog chorus. I especially enjoyed the firefly’s, and the light arch, great for a family photo. The lake was full of light boats, at first we thought they were stars , until we realised it was the reflection on the water!!
Half way through you have the opportunity to purchase a drink , or toast marshmallows over the fire pits, marshmallows are £1.60 each. ( The marshmallows are lovely).Santa was sitting near his cabin, talking to guests walking by, lots of excited children rushing to say hello to him .The whole place is so family friendly, talking to families walking around , they all said they were enjoying the lights, many attended every year, the children were mesmerised by the lights, and sounds. As you reach the end of the trail you will be treated to a spectacular light and sound show, projected onto the house, from snowflakes to Christmas countdowns, music from the nutcracker to Mariah Carey’s, All I want from Christmas is you.
We found the trail suitable for all, well sign posted and staff sited around each section. It is mostly gravel, so just be aware, should you be in a wheelchair or with a walker when it’s wet, it could be hard going. Mobility scooters are available to pre book. There’s plenty of parking, which unless you are a member of the national trust you have to pay for with your entrance ticket. There are plenty of facilities, which are very clean. It takes around 90 minutes to walk around the lights, around 3.5km. Entry into the gardens are staggered in to 15 minute slots , which means it should not get too crowded as you walk around. At £79, for a family of 4 it can be seen as expensive in today’s climate, however , Belton Christmas lights make a fantastic family treat, it’s definitely a 5/5 from us.
Rating: 5/5
