Last night me and my partner went to the Theatre Royal in Plymouth to watch the fantastic musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
As usual we received a very warm welcome from the staff at the theatre and the theatre was clearly signposted so you could easily find your way around.
There are two car parks locally the Theatre Royal one has a height restriction so we are unable to park there and for the first time ever we were unable to park in the other one so we used local street parking, where again there is plenty, but it does work out more expensive. With plenty of local places to eat and also the theatre restraint you can make a really good evening.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was fantastic from start to finish. With superb acting, singing and dancing from the youngest to the oldest members of the cast. The set changes were brilliant and the watching the car fly with 4 passengers was incredible, I’m still wondering where the strings were and how they got it to rotate in mid-air. The stage, the lighting and filmed back grounds were also great and made you feel as you were moving along with the car. The theatre was filled with energy with the audience clapping along to the fun songs. All the children were great especially the two main roles of Jeremy and Jemima Potts who had a massive part and a lot to remember well done to both of these. The only couple I was a little disappointed in was the Baroness and Baron as I didn’t feel the relationship came across as funny as it was in the film.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang tells you the story of a man and his two children. The man, Caractacus Potts (Lee Mead), is an inventor and he invents a magical car, as it can drive itself, and also floats and flies! He takes his children and his sweetheart Truly (Carrie Hope Fletcher) to Bulgaria to rescue his father (Andy Hockley) who has been taken by the comical pair Boris (Sam Harrison) and Goran (Scott Paige). However, when they get there the Baron (Shaun Williamson) of the country finds Chitty and steals it! Also, the Baroness (Michelle Collins) doesn’t like children, and she has banned them from the country, and while he is out trying to get Chitty and his father back, and Truly has gone out for food, the child-catcher (Matt Gillett) comes to kidnap the children (the child-catcher is still as scary as I remember in the film). So it is up to Caractacus to save the children of Bulgaria, including his own, and to get Chitty and grandpa back!!
A most wonderful enjoyable show for all the whole family. And highly recommend!
