My niece and nephews have developed a love for slime this year. Personally I was hoping it would have faded out of existence before they found out about it as I hate the feel of the stuff. However they keep mentioning it and despite all my attempts at dissuasion insist on getting some at every opportunity. Now shops are open again they have been begging me to buy them some, or let them use their pocket money to buy it themselves, every time I visit. They know I’m more likely to give in than mummy is! Despite our best efforts nothing messy actually stays on the table when my nephews play with it. Walls, ceiling and sofa are all great targets in their opinion, as am I.

I really like the idea of antibacterial slime because it’s a chore to get the kids to wash their hands after playing with it, and as the table is their messy play spot as well as where they eat, it seems like an excellent added bonus that it’s not going to leave germs behind. It is non toxic so if they end up accidentally eating some I don’t need to worry and I don’t have to make them wash their hands when they’ve finished playing with it. It kills up to 99.9% of germs on hands and the antibacterial properties last for around a month.

The antibacterial slime came in a pack of four different colours. Each tub was sealed individually and they’re a nice size for putting in a bag if you wanted to take them out and about. We got purple, blue, red and green in our pack so straight away both of my nephews and my niece had one tub each in their favourite colour. They had great fun getting it out of the tubs and playing with the squishy, slimy contents. They rolled it on the table, pulled it apart, stretched it until it separated, squished it in their hands and took great delight in trying to get it on me! I squeal when I’m not expecting to touch it, much to the kids delight! We accidentally got some on the sofa, but it came off easily and left no marks! It was also easily cleaned off the floor and the table and fitted nicely back into its pots when they’d finished playing with it.

Despite starting with one colour each and a spare, it didn’t take long for my eldest nephew to convince his brother and sister they should mix the colours up. They then had fun experimenting with making their own colours from small bits of each colour, starting with colour mixes which they knew what the result would be and then experimenting randomly. Eventually all four colours were all randomly mixed and we had a rather boring single colour left to go back into the four tubs. This didn’t phase the kids though and they quite happily got it out to play with again the next day.

Antibacterial slime can be bought as single tubs or as a four pack from both Smyths Toys and Amazon. At around £4 per single tub and around £9 – £10 for a four pack this is a great item for children to buy themselves with their pocket money, with the four pack currently working out better value than buying individually. It’s inexpensive enough that they can afford to buy it after only one or two weeks of saving their pennies. It’s longevity and reusability mean it’s not one of those poor quality things often found in this price range that end up needing to be thrown away after only a few hours of play so it’s much better value for them. Whilst they don’t care about it being antibacterial I feel this is a great idea and I would steer them to this rather than other slime when they’re looking for some to buy. I would have no hesitation over letting them buy this more than once.
