The show, by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth, is an award-winning musical portrayal of Calendar Girls. The show had a number of stars in the cast (Fern Britton, Anna-Jane Casey, Sara Crowe, Karen Dunbar, Ruth Madoc, Rebecca Storm and Denise Welch), who would be a clear draw to the show for fans. The theatre was packed, and the audience were in fits laughing at some stages but equally sombre in the sad excerpts.
The cast showed a great rapport on stage with the actors truly playing their part and clearly showing enjoyment within their roles.
The Mayflower Theatre is close to rail links and has plenty of parking in multi-story car parks close by. Be aware that traffic can be busy before the show so ensure you plan for extra time to avoid being late to a performance.
The Theatre itself is very clean and the interior looked fresh and regal after their refurbishment. The Mayflower was well staffed with plenty of helpful friendly ushers, aiding the theatre goers with directions and the purchase of refreshments in the interval.
Overall, I would recommend watching the show if you enjoy musicals and the story of the Calendar Girls.
