Firstly, I need to point out how I have always been amazed that along with so many other kits I have had, this kit too, is environmentally friendly as it is made using 100% sustainable cardboard and paper, making it Eco-friendly too. I have reviewed many of these kits and just as I think they cannot get any cuter, then comes along the Unicorn. Adorably cute too.
Kids today have been given too much access to screens and pre-programmed gadgets, so it is always refreshing to come across a product that champions hands-on creativity and imaginative play. The Build Your Own Kit Unicorn does just that; offering a charming, Eco-conscious activity that encourages construction skills, patience, and lots of fun.
Having reviewed many of these kits, it is always clear that they and including the unicorn kit, it is more than just a cardboard model. It is a carefully thought-out experience tailored for children who love mythical creatures, crafting, and building something from scratch.
The instructions are straightforward and very well illustrated, which is especially helpful for younger builders. The kit is ideal for children aged 4 years and upwards and I would highly recommend helping them as they will likely need a helping hand here and there, particularly when inserting the smaller tabs or aligning the more detailed sections of the unicorn’s mane and tail.
The build process is satisfying without being overly complex. The box says 20 minutes build time, although you may want to allow a bit longer depending on age and attention span. Each part slots together with care, and the cardboard is thick enough to be sturdy without being difficult to bend or manipulate.
One of the standout features of this kit is the attention to design. The finished unicorn is not just recognisably equine, it is genuinely beautiful. The flowing mane, sculpted legs, and proud horn come together to form a graceful and cheerful model that feels more like a display piece than a toy.
Once assembled, the unicorn stands upright and holds its shape extremely well. It is not designed to be a rough-and-tumble toy, but rather something to admire, lightly interact with, or use as a centrepiece for imaginative stories and games. I had many stories told to me by my granddaughter, it was so magical to listen to her imagination, watch her face light up and live in the moment of those magical and mystical stories. She named the Unicorn Poppy.
Although the unicorn does not have any moving parts, the kit comes with pieces to put together to make a trinket box with a working key (it is a magical key my granddaughter tells). Great to store all the little accessories like the comb, star and other accessors. This kit really does make the experience feel much more personal and engaging to a child.
Another great concept is that once the unicorn has been built, you can turn the box inside out, colour a picture of the unicorn and then hang it up.
