Browns Edinburgh Royal Afternoon Tea Review

To celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, Browns are offering a fabulous Royal Afternoon Tea, available throughout their restaurants until the end of June.
Luckily for us, on a gorgeous sunny day, we managed to sit outside Browns meaning we got to soak up the sun and the atmosphere at a delightful outdoor table. My friend who was accompanying me has a number of dietary requirements and it was great to see the staff were willing to accommodate her but unfortunately didn’t have any caffeine-free tea sadly – I have to admit our waiter did go above and beyond however, as he produced a lemon-ginger-hot water concoction that was very much to her liking!
Pre-food, we were offered one of their delicious royal-themed cocktails as part of the afternoon tea – a prosecco and apple rhubarb cordial affair, styled with a sharp blackberry – absolutely delicious and so refreshing, especially on such a warm day!
We were promptly served our food and what a welcome sight it was! Across a three-tiered cake stand we found a selection of delicious buttery brioche rolls filled with fillings fit for Royalty – coronation chicken, chicken and avocado and smoked salmon and cream cheese – not one but two delectable warmed scones each – one plain, one fruit – served with decadent clotted cream and raspberry jam (amazing!); slices of early grey and lemon cake, rich chocolate brownies, light salted caramel profiteroles and an amazing pot of condensed milk/white chocolate/creme brûlée – neither of us could work out exactly what it was but it was definitely a highlight!
There was so much to choose from we couldn’t decide where to start – we switched from brioche to scone to cake and back again – great to see such a variety of options, and something for everyone to enjoy!
Overall I’d give 4 out of 5 stars – what a lovely way to spend an afternoon, sipping tea, quaffing cocktails and devouring delicious cakes. It’s one I’ll definitely be recommending!
Browns Restaurant, situated on George Street in the heart of Edinburgh’s West End, is ideally situated close to both Waverley and Haymarket train stations and St Andrew’s bus station, making it an ideal restaurant to visit while in the centre of Scotland’s capital.
