Heck Sausages Review

Reviewed by Emma Rogers
Heck Sausages pride themselves on being a family run, farmer’s market brand which concentrates on sausages but also makes vegetarian vegetable bites to complement their meats. Here’s a selection of some of their products which they sent us to try!
Original Heck Sausages
97%, Gluten Free, Dairy Free. These sausages are probably the closest you will find to the ‘traditional’ sausage. With no spice or herb taste, this gluten free sausage suggests that there are no wheat fillers to add to the bulk of the sausage, making them ideal for children who don’t like the more localised variety of sausages. For taste, they are great for family meals, and I also liked the fact that there were no fatty bits in it like some other brands.
Bollywood Bites
These vegetable bites are made of cauliflower, lentils, pulses and seeds, and have a slight spice to them. Cooked in the oven at the same time as the sausages, they add a bit of variety to meals. Their texture reminded me of stuffing mix, used for the Sunday roast, but with the added bonus of being vegetable based!
Chicken Italia Sausages
These skinless sausages pride themselves on being versatile and able to be diced into a casserole, or like I had them, grilled or baked in the oven. They don’t look much like conventional sausages, but the 20 minutes it took to cook them in the oven gave them a crispy outer coating. I can’t say they tasted of chicken, but the gluten free recipe is suited to those who don’t like conventional sausages and want something lighter. The texture reminded me of homemade burgers made of minced meat.
The Majestic
This specially made recipe is to commemorate the wedding of Harry and Meghan contains ginger (I’m thinking that’s a coincidence and not a bad pun!) and American mustard. Although you can’t taste the mustard so much, the ginger is evident yet not overpowering in this pork selection. I liked them, mainly because they were very different with the ginger flavouring but still being pork sausages. They’re also gluten free, so the whole family can enjoy.
Heck Sausages are full of flavour, quality sausages.
