Brewers Fayre Buchanan Gate Glasgow Review

Reviewed by Kayreen Di Folco

I was asked to attend the grand opening of the new play zone within the Brewer’s Fayre at Buchanan Gate in Glasgow. I was keen to attend as I have a 3 year old daughter and it’s always good to discover new family friendly restaurants.

The restaurant is only a 5 minute drive from the nearest motor way connection, and as it is directly off a main road, there are easy to reach bus stops within walking distance from the entrance. The car park had plenty of spaces left even though there was an event on, the ease of finding a space was great.

We were invited along and asked to attend between 10.15am to approx 12.30pm, we arrived just on time and the place was already booming with attendees. The entrance to the play zone is through the length of the restaurant, which is good as escapee children would find it hard to reach the main exit before being noticed! The entrance to the play zone has brightly coloured doors which have ‘no-jam’ spaces in the middle and sides of the doors. The idea is brilliant! It’s one of those things that makes you stop and think ‘why hasn’t this been done before!’

As we entered the play zone, we were greeted by friendly staff who were happy to help us. I was asked to write down the children’s names, my name and for security each child was given a wristband to show their attendance in the zone. It was clear at this point that the play zone is almost like a stand-alone area. There are family sized tables for folk to sit and enjoy a Brewer’s Fayre meal while their children play within eye distance.

Along with this, there is the option for people to bring their children to the play zone and not have a meal, but sit at one of the small tables, watch their child play and have a drink.

The soft play area is great. It’s not overly big, but is spacious enough for lots of children to play at the same time. There are small cozy coupe cars and baby walkers available for small children to use. There is also a party area available, which was set up for arts and crafts on the day. The decor throughout is of Dennis the Menace and friends, which the kids loved. Dennis himself attended the event and the children thoroughly enjoyed his carry on!

The kids played in the soft play for a while, enjoyed the arts and crafts and had their faces painted. They had a thoroughly enjoyable day!

We later sat down for a lovely Brewer’s Fayre meal. It was great. I had a chicken tikka and rice, served with naan bread, poppadum and mango chutney. It’s safe to say that I cleared my plate. The food was delicious! The kids had chicken poppers from the kids menu which was served with chips and beans, and they also cleared their plates!

Overall the day was great. The kid’s play zone is brilliant, and a great addition to the restaurant. It’s clear they have safety at the forefront which is always welcome from any parent. The food was delicious, reasonably priced and the staff were great! We will definitely be back!
