What a fantastic weekend I had with my little family, as the New Theatre in Cardiff transported us off to the magical little kingdom of Ben & Holly. Myself, my husband and my twins of 5 spent a morning completely mesmerised by the set and characters of this popular kid’s TV show as it took to the stage.
The story for the stage show was a familiar one that I’m certain has graced our TV screens already. The tale of the adventures Nanny Plum has on her duties as the tooth fairy. The very quiet job she tries to do with the help of best friends Ben and Holly. Despite all their best efforts quiet isn’t something they do well and accidentally wake up the little girl in question. From there they take the little girl on a magical journey to the little kingdom much to the annoyance of Wise Old Elf.
The characters and the set of the stage show stay true to the TV original that is loved by kids worldwide. For my boys, this really helped to keep them engaged throughout. During the performance, all the characters encouraged the children of the audience to participate in the singing and dancing that was taking place. It was lovely to see children across the theatre singing laughing and dancing with their favourite characters.
The set was simple yet effective as it was reminiscent of the magical kingdom we know and love. A favourite of my boys was the arrival of Gaston the ladybird who whizzed around the stage with the help of the numerous characters he interacted with.
We had a lovely morning at the New Theatre taking part in this magical adventure. Would we recommend a visit? Absolutely. Hurry get your tickets and visit the kingdom of elves and fairies. We give Ben and Holly 4 out of 5 stars.
