Being a great advocate of recycling/upcycling and reusing products I was extremely pleased to be able to be given the opportunity to try out Bee Green Wraps. Bee Green make reusable beeswax food wraps in in single packs up to large starter packs. I was sent a lunch pack, rrp £12.99, which contains two wraps, one size medium and one size large. The medium wrap is 31 x 21cm and the large 31 x 31cm, large enough for sandwiches, together with some cheese & crackers, fruit etc.

The wraps came beautifully packaged and would make a great gift. Flat packed in a natural carboard sleeve with gold honeycomb printed on it, the product looks very stylish. It also smells great as i could smell the beeswax immediately I opened the envelope. The wraps in my pack came in two different designs, a mustard yellow art deco type pattern with a bee in the middle and one covered with pastel coloured fruit, both were striking and pleasing to look at.

The wraps do feel quite strange to touch, waxy and a tiny bit sticky, so that they stick to themselves when folded, you soon get used to it though. Made from natural fibre infused with a blend of beeswax, tree resin and certified organic jojoba oil they are also plastic free, chemical free, and biodegradable and so sit easy on your conscience compared to throw away plastic bags.

I found the wraps really easy to use, flatten out like a piece of paper and wrap like a parcel, as they warm up from your touch, they stick to themselves, or fold into little bags and roll the edges down twice to seal. We tried them for a picnic lunch, and they stayed stuck down in the lunch box and didn’t unfurl. They can be used for all manner of foods, nuts, bread etc but aren’t suitable for raw meat, hot food or liquids. When we got back from our lunch out they were really easy to clean, I just washed them down with cold water, hot can melt the wax, and washing up liquid and they came up as good as new. I then laid them somewhere cool to dry and packed them away for next time. According to the instructions they can last from a couple of months to a year if looked after and protected from heat (they can’t be put in the dishwasher as its too hot) so hopefully we will still be using them for next year’s picnics.

Made in Australia the Bee Green Wraps are perfect for everyday use or as a useful Birthday/Christmas gift. They are ethical and reusable. Yes, they do cost more than using plastic sandwich bags or endless clingfilm but the saving to landfill and the environment is enormous. With a single wrap priced at £4.99 to the large starter pack at £25.49 there is something for every budget on their website, take a look for further details. I highly recommend these wraps from Bee Green, they look great, smell great and are easy to use, they will definitely be on my must have list from now on.
