Recently it was my birthday and I was asked to review a birthday cake that is delivered through your letterbox. As you can imagine, I was very intrigued as were my family and colleagues who could not fathom how this was possible. According to their website www.bakerdays.com you can ‘create your own unique and customised cakes, boxes of cupcakes or helium balloons’. It also says on their ‘website makes cakes to order so simple’. All you have to do is ‘choose a design, size and delicious recipe and then personalise it with your own photos and a special message’. I was able to navigate their website easily. There is an amazing selection of single tier, double tier and triple tier cakes for sale on their website. Cakes to suit every taste, style and occasion. As it was my birthday, I opted for a personalised, lemon drizzle flavoured cake. I had it personalised with my favourite film poster ‘Back to the Future’ and the wording of ‘Happy Birthday Janine’ written on it. Please see the photos. It really did look amazing. I was sent the letterbox size cake which serves between 2-4 people, it was very small, the icing was very thick and the actual cake was very thin and I felt, sadly lacked the lemon taste I was expecting. I guess if it had been one of their other sizes of cakes, then it might have had more flavour. Other sizes of their cakes include a small party cake which serves between 10-12 people, medium cake, which serves 18-25 people and their large cake, which serves between 40-55 people.

Flavours of cake you can choose from are traditional sponge, rich chocolate chip, gluten wheat free sponge, dairy free sponge, lovely lemon drizzle, half chocolate and half sponge, fabulous fruit and vegan sponge. Such a variety to choose from, although it depends on the size of the cake to the cake choice you can choose from.

I was very impressed with the personalisation of the cake. The actual picture on the cake exactly matched the photo I sent to them. On their website it says they ‘use the most advanced printing technology and premium quality cake ingredients to ensure the highest standard of photo celebration cakes’ And they ‘offer gluten and wheat free and dairy free personalised cake options’ which is unusual.

I think the idea of having a cake delivered through the post is a lovely idea and would make a lovely surprise for the recipient, but for what it is, I would say it is very expensive, especially if you want to order a big three tier cake and I am not sure how this would fit safely through the letterbox?

For personalised photo cakes, the letterbox cakes prices range from £14.99-£16.99, small party cakes prices range from £39.99-£43.99, medium cakes from £49.99-£55.99 and large cake prices range from £69.99-£72.99, the prices depend on the type of cake you want under the icing.

On their website, they offer gift packages too to include balloons etc. They cover a wide range of occasions and products and I was very impressed with the picture on the cake and it is a nice idea of sending a cake to a loved one via the post, but for me, they are just a bit too pricey for what they are. I would however recommend you give them a try if this is the sort of thing you are after.

Their website has a wide variety of ranges and is well worth a look.
