Ayu MesmerEyes Glitter And Glow Liquid Eyeshadow Set Review

With Christmas fast approaching and the potential for lots of well overdue Christmas get-togethers, given the past couple of years, I was really excited to be chosen to review the Ayu MesmerEyes Glitter & Glow Liquid eyeshadow set, to add a bit of glitz to the festivities.

The Mesmereyes eyeshadow set arrived really quickly and was packaged in a recyclable cardboard box; inside the box I found an attractively packaged trio of gel-based liquid eyeshadows, in a cardboard carton. I felt the outer plastic sleeve was slightly excessive, given how well the eyeshadows were packaged, but this could be recycled as single-use plastic in the collections at most large supermarkets.

The trio of metallic gel-based liquid eyeshadow set came in 3 shades – gold, copper and bronze of 4.43ml. However, although it was evident which shade was gold, it was a little unclear as to which shade was the copper and which was the bronze, as the shade wasn’t written on each tube, as is often the case. However, as the colours are not sold separately, it wasn’t too much of an issue.

The liquid eyeshadows were in small square bottles, with a wand (similar to what you would find on a lipgloss), making it so easy to apply and the product gave great coverage. I applied it over the top of some eyeshadow primer and it genuinely lasted for the duration of my intended wear (well over 8 hours) and unlike other products I’ve used in the past (from another well-known brand), it continued to look fresh, rather than cracking and requiring reapplication. The eyeshadow dried really quickly, allowing me to apply the rest of my make-up pretty much straight afterwards. The eyeshadow can also be applied as an eyeshadow topper, depending on your preference. The size of each bottle easily lends itself to being popped into your clutch bag for the evening, in case you wanted to touch it up, without bulking out your bag.

When it came to removing the eyeshadow, it came off easily and in one go, with my usual make-up remover, so it was great that I didn’t need to use anything else too.

Ayu is not a brand that I was familiar with, before receiving the set. However, their website https://ayu.ie/ gave me some background about the company. Ayu is an Irish based, Irish owned company, set up by makeup artist Suzie O’Neill. I was pleased to read that Ayu do not test any of their products on animals and all Ayu cosmetics are Vegan friendly. In addition to this, the company is currently in the process of removing all plastic from their packaging, which is fantastic.

It looks like this set with gold, copper and bronze, is the only one currently available as a liquid eyeshadow, so depending on skin tone and preference, the 3 colours together might not be to everyone’s taste. I’d love to see a rose gold shade added to the collection too or maybe the option to mix and match shades.

Ayu does the full range of make-up items, including foundation, powder eyeshadow pallets and make-up brushes (all the wood used for the handles on the make-up brushes are made from regenerated forests).

The set retails at £21.83 (GBP) on the website and is currently included as part of a 3 for 2 on selected make up on the site. In addition to this, there is currently free shipping available until 31st December 2022. I definitely think the set represents good value for money, when compared with similar products from other brands. The set would be a perfect Christmas gift for ladies of all ages, especially for Christmas party season and for seeing in the New Year.
