An Overnight Stay at Shire House Luton Review

Reviewed by Debbie Talbot

Like a lot of people, I really enjoy getting away for a relaxing break. Whilst hotels are great and I have stayed in some fantastic ones which are affordable, I do prefer self-catering accommodation as it has a more relaxed feel and more space to unwind. I also like being able to save money on eating at restaurants. I was therefore delighted to come across Shire House on, which is located at 400 Dallow Road in Luton, Bedfordshire. Shire House is a fairly new development of flats which have been converted from an office building. The booking process was simple and the rates affordable enough for most budgets. Whilst booking I noticed that one, two and three bedroom flats are available at Shire House. This is ideal for families. Soon after booking I received instructions on how to collect the key for the apartment. The management of the apartments are efficient, professional and friendly.

My companion and I had booked a one night stay for last Saturday night. I had a query beforehand about parking and what is provided in the apartment and so I phoned the number provided via The person who answered could not be more helpful. Half an hour or so before we wished to check in I phoned the number provided and arranged to meet up with one of the management team to collect the keys. We then set off for the apartment. Upon arrival we had no problem parking in the spacious car park. My companion and I were happy to see that the apartment block had good security with cameras. The management team arrived promptly and showed us to our 2 bedroom apartment. When we walked in, we were wowed. It was clean, uncluttered and well equipped. We unpacked our belongings and then headed into town via taxi. This cost a very approximately £5 which is reasonable. Another option would have been to catch the Number X31 bus along Dallow Road into town, or to walk the short 5-10 minute walk across to the local retail park to catch the Z bus into town.

After spending a wonderful afternoon in town and meeting up with a friend we headed back to the apartment, again via taxi. We spent a relaxing evening watching the Freeview channels on the TV. Whilst no WiFi was available this was not an issue for us as we have a mobile dongle.

I did just want to mention how well equipped the apartment is. The living area had a sofa, table and chairs, coffee table and TV. The kitchen had a fridge, toaster, kettle, pans, cutlery, crockery and utensils etc. Washing up liquid was provided. In the bathroom toilet roll was provided and shower gel. The bath had a shower which was great. Towels and bedding were provided in the bedrooms. We checked out at around midday the next morning after a restful night’s sleep. I had the twin room and my companion the double room. Both beds were very comfortable and the blinds on the window shut out light preventing waking up too early.

The apartment is fantastic. We have a 2 night stay planned soon. I cannot recommend the apartment itself enough and the staff who manage the apartments. The location is perfect for visiting family or friends local to Luton or even as a base for a weekend in London without having to pay out too much for your accommodation as it is close to London Luton airport, rail station and if driving, the M1.
