Altruist Gift Box Review

With skin cancer being the most common of all cancers, the thought of giving an ethical Christmas gift, that not only helps keep my loved ones safe but also makes a life changing difference to children in Africa, really appeals to me.
Altruist’s mission is to “reduce the incidence of skin cancer with better education and awareness through the increased use of sunscreen” and by producing a quality product at a price affordable to all they are really supporting this mission. With each Altruist product brought a donation of 10p is made to protect the most vulnerable, people with albinism in Africa, from the harmful effects of the sun.
They do a great range of individual products, but they also sell two Christmas gift boxes, the Altruist Hydrating Glow Christmas Gift Box (rrp £29.70 currently on sale at £22.35) & the Altruist Protected Skin Christmas Gift Box (rrp £30.25 currently on sale at £25.20) and I was lucky enough to receiver the latter to review.
The Altruist gift boxes come in recyclable packaging, in 2023, 50% of all their packaging was made from recycled plastic, but the gift box itself comes in plain brown cardboard with red spots and simple Altruist branding in black. Inside there are four products surrounded by red shredded paper to give a festive touch. The box also includes a Thank You leaflet explaining not only the donation you are giving by purchasing an Altruist product, but also a little about the condition of albinism, where the body has no natural resistance from the sun.
The Protected Skin gift box contains four products, The first being a new product, Moisturising Fluid, which contains 0.5% Hyaluronic Acid and is SPF50, useful for those who tend to forget, or not bother wearing sunscreen on their face. For those who prefer a Hyaluronic Acid based cream to improve skin firmness and elasticity, combining it with a suncream creates a fantastic all in one face product. Coming in a 50ml flip lidded tube within a metallic blue/silver box, it definitely looks like a premium product.
The second product is Altruist Sunscreen SPF50. With high UVA & UVB protection, and totally fragrance free, the 100ml generously sized flip lidded tube is perfect for the body and neck. I found that it wasn’t thick or sticky, but fast absorbing and easy to apply.
The third product is Altruist Face Fluid SPF50.The fluid exceeds EU standards with a 5-star ultra-UVA rating (PPD 52) and is enriched with Vitamin E. Designed for sensitive skin it helps reduce the risk of skin cancer and premature ageing. It’s a super light lotion and is easy to apply, preferably 20 minutes before going out into the sun, and should be regularly reapplied, luckily, it’s easy to pop in your handbag and it looks much nicer than a traditional sunscreen. The Altruist Face Fluid also comes in a metallic style box, and I really liked the flatter design of the 50ml tube, I thought it was really stylish and looked expensive.
The fourth & last product in the box is the Altruist 10% Urea Dry Skin Cream. Coming in a super generous 200ml tube this cream doesn’t contain and SPF but it protects and balances dry or rough skin so is perfect for an after sun lotion. Suitable for those with skin conditions such as with psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis it make a perfect partner for the other products in the box.
In my opinion the Altruist range makes a perfect Christmas gift. The products are ethical being, cruelty free, coral friendly, vegan, hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, fragrance and paraben free with recyclable packaging. All sales contribute to charity supporting children across Africa, which makes you think they will be very expensive, but no, not only are the products really affordable, but they also work fantastically well too!
