Hilarious is the only way to describe Monday night’s performance of Jeeves & Wooster in Perfect Nonsense! It was start to finish laughter from the whole audience and you could not help but be drawn into the capers as they unfolded on the stage.

Jason Thorpe at Jeeves and Robert Webb as Bertie Wooster were a well matched pair assisted by Christopher Ryan as Stepping.

Based on P.G. Wodehouse’s characters Jeeves and Wooster and adapted by The Goodale Brother’s, the play is of Wooster recounting the story of the Silver Cow Creamer he is asked to steal by his Aunt. The story is imparted by the three actors with Thorpe and Ryan taking on many guises.

Jeeves & Wooster in Perfect Nonsense plays on the limitation of having just the three actors. One on the funniest moments was where Jeeves was being both father and daughter while they had a conversation… he was dressed one half as father and one half as daughter and had to keep turning around so the audience could see the appropriate character… I don’t know how he remembered to use the correct voice for the correct character!

The delivery, expression and mannerisms of the characters are key in the humour and it was wonderful to see a play that you could sit with anyone through (even your mother-in-law) and not be uncomfortable!

That fact that Jeeves & Wooster in Perfect Nonsense were playing to a full house on a Monday night is testament to its following from P.G. Wodehouse’s novels and short stories and the 1990’s TV series.

The King’s Theatre is situated on Leven Street in the Bruntsfield area of Edinburgh close to the city centre. It is well appointed with on street parking in the vicinity.

Internally the theatre is very grand with beautiful gilt work and chandeliers. Having been upgraded in the last few years the facilities within the theatre are very comfortable.
