Sunday 8th June saw an excited family including our 3 children under 5 and Grandparents attend the 9th annual Tractor Ted Farm Show with the Bowood Charity Dog Show and Summer Fair in Wiltshire.
First impressions were positive with the entrance offering a visual treat of large agricultural machines, bouncy castles, fairground rides and tractor rides.
First stop for us was the Main Ring where a succession of agricultural machines and animals were showcased, the ring was circled by further interactive displays such as sheep shearing, bale wrapping, ride on tractors and donkey rides, even an opportunity to get hands on with the Bath Rugby guys ball’s!
After a few hours in The Tractor Ted arena we decamped down the gentle slope towards the Dog Show arena which encompassed 5 separate dog rings with the backdrop of Bowood House and its award winning gardens on one side and the large ornamental lake on the other, all framed by the picturesque Wiltshire Downs.
As well as the Tractor Ted and dog displays the event offered something for everyone, including a Beer and Pimms tent, live cooking demonstrations and retail therapy in the Shopping Village where local traders had an impressive selection of goods on display.
We had great fun watching children partake in the “have a go” agility course leading their at times reluctant family dogs round. It was the theme of children’s involvement that ran through the whole day, from those proudly parading their prize winning pooches to those zipping round on the quad bikes.
Food choice was plentiful, stalls selling amongst other things; artisan bread, organic pizza, hand-crafted local ale, speciality coffee and luxury chocolates.
Lots to see and do with all the displays and demonstrations easily accessible to prams and wheelchairs.
We are looking forward to the 10th anniversary in 2015, see you there!
