In our house, a bottle of fizz and a bunch of flowers is standard Mother’s Day fare. It never fails to disappoint. Mums and fizz go together like biscuits and tea. It’s just natural! But, with this having been an incredibly difficult year, I wanted to put a bit more effort into my fizz-buying so when the option to review some of Aldi’s Prosecco Rose DOC arose, I jumped at the chance. Fizzy and pink – could Aldi’s Prosecco Rose DOC be the perfect gift?

Having launched in 2020, I actually hadn’t seen it on shelves before – admittedly, that’s probably because I haven’t been into too many supermarkets since February 2020 – but with a 5-star rating on the Aldi website, I was interested to see if this beautiful pink bubbly could live up to expectations.

I’ll be honest, I’m normally a bit wary of ‘extra dry’ Prosecco. On the scale of sweetness, it’s sweeter than Brut, but not as sweet as ‘dry’ – I know, the sparkling wine sweetness scale can all be rather confusing. Anyway! Like my mum, I normally prefer as-dry-as-you-can-get sparkling wine, so as I say, I was a tad wary but I needn’t have been at all.

Aldi’s Prosecco Rose DOC was everything you could want in a fizz, and more. An elegant dainty pink in colour, it was light, delicate and fruity with a gorgeous floral aroma. I could imagine us lazing in the sun with a sparkling flute in hand, or enjoying it with a light meal. Stunning!

Whilst still a relatively young wine, with a vintage of 2019, the berry and peach flavours were subtle but well balanced. Once the bottle was popped, I used a sparkling wine bottle topper to ensure the fizz stayed in the bottle, and after a couple of hours, I can confirm the fizz was still very much present. Too often I buy a mid-range bottle of sparkling wine and am disappointed to find it’s as flat as a pancake within minutes of the bottle opening, so well done Aldi – your Prosecco Rose DOC did not disappoint.

In terms of the packaging, the pink and silver labelling is quite sophisticated. While it’s feminine, it isn’t off putting or tacky. The silver texture wrap around the neck of the bottle felt premium. Knowing there’s a proper cork underneath adds to its luxury feel too – we all know there’s nothing quite like the ‘pop’ of the cork from a bottle of fizz! The lavish design would definitely make it an ideal gift, and with Mother’s Day around the corner, you couldn’t go wrong with a bottle or two to celebrate that special lady in your life.

The full 75cl bottle with 11% ABV is a bargain for the £6.49 price tag. And, if you can’t make it to your local store – or there just isn’t one nearby – never fear as it’s also available on the Aldi website with a variety of delivery options including, standard delivery (£2.95; or free with orders of over £30), next day delivery (from £3.95), named day delivery (from £3.95), CollectPlus (£2.95) or Saturday UK delivery (£3.95).

2021 might be a little different for Mother’s Day, so even if you can’t spend the day with your loved ones, sending a bottle of this will let your mother know you’re thinking of her.

Cheers!
