Aldi BBQ Range Review

Reviewed by Nicola Wilkinson

I was asked to review Aldi’s BBQ essentials range. An Aldi store had recently opened in my nearby town and due to mainly doing online shopping I’d had only previously only popped in for the essential’s when needed. So I jumped at the chance to try something new.

We had a BBQ planned with friends so the timing couldn’t have been any better. Aldi gave me £10 to put towards their essentials range.

The first item my children spotted were the Jubbly Ice Lollies there’s were 99p for 8 x 62ml. They couldn’t decide which flavour to buy so we ended up with both, strawberry and orange. After having to explain to my four and two year old that they have to be frozen overnight they were a big hit at our BBQ with both the children and adults. Very refreshing with lots of flavouring great to have on a hot day.

We then picked up some Tyrrell’s Thai Chilli Rice Crackers – £1.49 each, 150g, don’t be put off by the size of the bag, being rice crackers I assumed the bag would be at least twice the size. The crackers are little clusters of rice cake and are fairly dense hence the small bag size. A lovely flavour though just the right amount of heat to sweetness. A lovely light snack.

Next was the Schwartz Grill mates, 89p each. We picked Smoky Texan & the Mojito Lime. Both packets gave you suggested recipes which was very handy as we are often not sure of the best way to use marinades. With the Mojito Lime Grill Mate we made a honey lime marinade, by combining the sachet contents with oil, lime and honey. We then left the chicken in the marinade before cooking on the BBQ. These tasted fantastic, leaving it with a refreshing taste.

Again the Smokey Texan had recipe ideas on the packet. We decided to use this one with pork ribs we combined the sachet with ketchup and honey with made very tasteful smokey BBQ rib sauce.

We then picked up the Very Lazy Chillies and Very Lazy Garlic at 99p each. We picked these as we had never seen them before and wanted to try something different on the BBQ. I wasn’t really sure on how to use them but looked on the Very Lazy website which was full of ideas and very helpful. We choose chicken skewers which used both the Very Lazy Chillies and the Very Lazy Crushed garlic. The chicken skewers were full of flavour we also made a chilli butter, this was rather hot but nice for a change.

My children then spotted the Marshmallows for BBQ – 99p per pack, 270g I used to love toasting marshmallows when I was a child so I jumped at the chance of doing this with my children. The marshmallows are large and a great size for barbecuing, they brought back lots of childhood memories and made new memories with the children at the BBQ.

The last thing we brought was a green Insulated Freezer Bag – (£2.79 each) this was handy to keep meat in close to the BBQ while it was waiting to be cooked. At such a good price the bag is strong and kept the meet cool.

Our overall shopping experience at Aldi was great and we will definitely be returning. It was great to be able to try foods we would never have just picked up before. As well as the food being tasty the prices were fantastic. Aldi’s BBQ range comes highly recommended from our family.
