Do you ever wonder what if you still have any alcohol in your system from drinking the night before? I know I do. I don’t drink and drive, not even a sip but if I have been out, especially around the festive season and got a taxi home the next day I am always trying to work out how many units of alcohol I have had and how long it takes each unit to leave my system – Google is my friend on these days. BUT now I have the solution!

I was lucky enough to be asked to review the AlcoSense Lite 2 Alcohol Breathalyser (RRP: £44.99) and all I can say is this is now my friend on the morning after!

The AlcoSense Lite 2 is small, handbag sized breathalyser which comes with 6 reusable blow tubes and a voucher worth £4.99 for a further pack (must be claimed within 30 days of purchase!) and is so easy to use, and the reading is clear – if you are over the limit then you don’t drive! It took me 3 minutes to set up and since then literally within less than 1 minute I know if I still have alcohol in my system or not!

The user manual is simple (which is a good job after a few drinks!) and clearly states what the limits are for England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland so you can easily pre-set the monitor to ensure that there are no foul readings! Again, the setting up for the different limits is really easy to do, but also shows you the difference of tolerance levels when you are travelling.

In the manual it states that this is a guidance only reading, and that if you think you have alcohol in your system then you should allow extra time and take another reading 30 minutes later.

As with all new gadgets I liked to try and see if I could get the reading to change on the monitor, so I tried it after 1 glass of wine, 2 glasses of wine – then I lost count so did the readings in the morning and all I would say is that my reading was different to that of my friend after drinking the same amount. Therefore, it shows that our bodies tolerate alcohol levels differently and that even with 1 glass of wine (which technically was in within my “allowed units”) I was actually over the limit. However, my friend after the 1 glass was only showing traces – although she does drink a lot more regular than me! So, this just shows, we need to be more mindful about what we are drinking all year around but its more prominent at Christmas.

This is perfect gift for my dad (I am going to buy him one for Christmas) as he travels a lot in his campervan around Scotland (the distillery’s) and has numerous holidays to make sure he is able to make conscious choices and knowing what his alcohol levels are before setting off on his next adventure.

The AlcoSense Lite 2 is sat inside our alcohol cupboard, and when we have friends over (especially Christmas and New Year) we will be encouraging them to take the test, and make sure they are not over the limit the next morning.

As with all breathalysers, this does not give you green light to drive if you have had a drink but does give you guidance so that you can make a conscious decision, and perfect for the morning after a night out celebrating!

Overall, I give this a 5 out of 5 and say it is a perfect gift for all, anyone who has a car or drives should have one of these. In France it is common practice, and I think it should be here in the UK also.
