Our family has a weekly pizza night. After a long week of work and school, Friday nights are when we relax together and eat pizza for dinner. With varying tastes and food allergies we find it best (and tastier) to make our own pizza bases so we can each pick our own toppings. This is also part of our Friday night enjoyment, chatting away in the kitchen as we build our creations. As delicious as they are I have often thought about using a pizza oven to really give them that traditional stonebaked flavour. Therefore I’ve been very happy to try out the Vonhaus outdoor pizza oven. With Summer finally feeling like it’s on the way we have been spending a lot more time out in our garden. We have a lovely set up with a chiminea and so the Vonhaus pizza oven is the perfect addition for our Summer evenings. With Father’s day coming up next month this is a fantastic gift idea for the Dad who seems to have everything. It’s enjoyable for the whole family and lovely way for everyone to spend time together.
The Vonhaus pizza oven arrived boxed ready to be built before use. Unfortunately we then had days and days of rain. Certainly not feeling like Summer! But then we were lucky to have a warm, sunny weekend. I unboxed the pieces and had the pizza oven built within minutes. There were instructions included but we found them rather confusing and sparse but luckily it was very straightforward to put together. Once built I was very happy. The Vonhaus looks stylish and attractive. I was also pleased with how sturdy and high quality the pizza oven is, especially as at £159.99 retail price it is a much more economical option than many other alternative brands of pizza ovens. It is excellent quality and looks fantastic in our garden. When not in use the Vonhaus can also easily be stored. It is not too heavy and the legs fold in making it easy to tuck away in our shed.
Once built there are some extras that you will need to purchase before you can use. Wood pellets are needed as fuel which can be bought in large quantities fairly cheaply. I’d recommend a large bag as around 600g is needed to get the pizza oven lit and heated and then it requires topping up whilst cooking. We also invested in a pizza paddle, as one isn’t included, to be safer placing the pizza in and removing when cooked.
It may look fantastic but of course it needs to also cook a fantastic pizza. The Vonhaus pizza oven was so easy to use. We quickly got it lit and then it was heated up within 15 minutes. I’ll admit our first few attempts did not come out the best. I’m glad I made plenty of spare dough. The oven cooks incredibly quickly. Within 90 seconds each pizza was cooked through so we had to keep our eye on them closely and get them removed in time. But it was so worth it. The hot pizza stone gave them that amazing stone baked flavour. Plus there was hardly any cleaning up time afterwards!
For a cheaper item on the market we were extremely impressed with the Vonhaus. Best of all we can fold it up and even take it away anywhere with us.
What an incredible gift this would be for Father’s Day this year that could then be used countless times. And even if Dad isn’t a big pizza fan the oven can also be used to smoke near, fish or vegetables.
We are already planning toppings for our next pizza night this Summer.
