I am increasingly looking for products which use natural ingredients and are environmentally friendly, so I was delighted to be given the opportunity to try out the Aviela Pure Shea Butter. This brand is certified both Vegan and cruelty free. All the ingredients are 100% natural and the packaging is 100% recyclable.
The 15ml pot arrived packed in a very natural looking brown cardboard outer, wrapped in tissue paper with an Aviela seal and a personalised postcard. The presentation was lovely and very inviting.

As Aviela is a new brand for me I did a little research, and their website tells the story of how Patricia the owner of the company discovered the healing properties of Shea whilst on a visit to Ghana in 2007. Of the product, the website says “The Ultimate Dry Skin butter. Divine, natural deep hydration and nourishment for supple glowing skin. With 100% pure, highest grade unrefined Shea butter, rich in essential fatty acids and Vitamins A and E in a light whipped butter. Suitable for all skin types.

After having read this, I was very keen to give the Aviela Pure Shea Butter a try. My skin is generally dry and I also have patches of eczema/dermatitis which can become inflamed at times so was keen to see how the product might benefit me. On opening the small brown glass pot, I found the contents to be a white and very and rich buttery with no discernible smell. I scraped out a small amount with my fingernail and warmed in my palms to soften it slightly as it felt quite hard at first. I started by massaging it into the area between my ring finger and middle finger which is prone to eczema. It felt very soothing and comforting on my dry skin, although when it melted it became a bit oily and greasy. I also used it on my face, and it melted in really easily and left my face feeling amazing. It’s so rich and nourishing. It can be used anywhere on the body, however, if wearing on skin to be covered by clothing then you will need to be aware that it may leave greasy marks on them.
I was very interested to read that the Pure Shea Butter can be used on hair. I have naturally curly hair which can become frizzy at times, so I had to try and see how this might work. After warming a very small amount in my palms, I smother the butter over my fly away hairs and was very pleased with the results. It smoothed the frizz leaving my hair looking sleek and shiny. I was initially worried that it may make my hair look greasy, but this wasn’t the case at all. With all the ingredients being natural I can be confident that the product will be easy to wash out and leave my hair soft.
This miracle product is available in two sizes! 15ml and 180ml. The small size, which was the one I received, would be useful for travel or to pop in your handbag for use whilst out and about.
Would make a super gift for anyone who suffers from dry skin.
