Lego Big Bentley Bust Out Review
Lego Cars 2:
Big Bentley Bust Out
Reviewed by Gaenor Davis and Meghan Davis
From the moment I gave the Lego to my daughter (Meghan aged 8), she was mesmerised. She could not wait to open the box to get building!.
This is the biggest Lego Meghan has ever had to build, but the size of it did not put her off.
Three generations of this family helped put this set together, Meghan took charge with mum and nanny as willing assistants!.
We opened the box together and found 5 individual bags of Lego together with 2 very clear instruction booklets. Instruction Book 1 shows you how to build the cars and Instruction Book 2 shows you how to build Big Bentley.
We knew exactly which bags to open. The pieces needed were shown in colour clearly in the pictures, plus how many were needed, how to put them together and how it should look once that part of the model had been completed. There was also a sign showing when to turn the model round or upside down. I thought this was brilliant as was so easy to follow.
The set includes the cars, Big Bentley, The Stand that the queen goes on, A Flagpole and another stand.
Meghan decided she would like to build the cars first, in total there are 7 car characters from the film:-
-
Lightning McQueen who is the Four-time Piston Cup champion race car.
-
Agent Mater who is Lightning McQueen’s best friend and mistaken for an American agent. He has a hook on the back of his car together with missiles down the side.
-
Finn Mcmissile who is a British Spy and is the longest car in the set.
-
Holly Shiftwell who is also a British Spy has detachable wings.
-
The Queen comes with a stand that it can go on.
-
Miles Axlerod who owns the world grand prix.
-
Professor Z who is the villain of the movie.
As we knew this would be a big job, we built it in separate stages. Meghan built Lightning McQueen, Professor Z and Holly Shiftwell were next. Professor Z has a magnifying glass attached which does work. Holly Shiftwell can fly if her wings are put on, if not she can be a normal car. These 3 were built in approximately 60 minutes.
Nanny then helped Meghan build the rest of the cars, The Queen, Miles Axlerod, Agent Mater and Finn McMissile and then started to build part of Big Bentley. Yet again Meghan took over and wanted to build it all! They spent approximately 90 minutes.
We then built the rest of Big Bentley in about an hour; again Meghan did the majority of this but had my help throughout.
Big Bentley has a ramp at the bottom so the cars can go down the ramp as they come out of Big Bentley, Sliding Doors at the bottom which allows you to open the doors and watch the cars slide down the ramp, Winch on the side which allows you to pull Agent Mater up and down the side of Big Bentley, Clock which can be removed. If the clock is removed you are able to fly the cars through the top of Big Bentley.
Big Bentley is approximately 33cm high so can be stored away very easily while not being used, whilst the cars along with the stand and the flagpoles can be either be stored in a box or neatly next to Big Bentley dependant on the room space.
Meghan never moaned while she was building this set, she loved every minute of it and even tried delaying her bed time to build more until it had all been completed!!.
Since we have completed building the Big Bentley Bust out set, she has played with it nonstop for about 7 hours!. She is playing with all of the characters and Big Bentley because of all the additional features.
Myself or Meghan cannot fault any part of this set. To be honest I was amazed by how fabulous it looks when it was all completed. I found it amazing that someone has created this fantastic product with Lego.
Upon asking Meghan her favourite features of the Big Bentley Bust out set, she said Mater is the best because you can wind him up on the ‘winch’ and climb up Big Bentley on the outside. Holly Shiftwell is another one of her favourites because you can take ‘her wings off’ and wiz her through the top of the tower when you remove the clock. Although she has no dislikes!!.
I have never known Meghan to play with something for such a long period of time, she loves every part of this set. I (mum) is now eyeing up the Tower Bridge Set!!
