Fatal Attraction At Theatre Royal, Nottingham Review
TICKETS TO SEE THE SHOW WERE GIFTED TO THE REVIEWER AND GUEST FOR THE PURPOSES OF WRITING THE REVIEW.
I was asked to attend a review of the theatre performance Fatal Attraction at Nottingham Theatre Royal. We attended on the opening evening and it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The two of us (two ladies at the top end of our forties) had a blast. We decided to make an evening of it. We popped for a cocktail at a bar close-by to the theatre. There is an array of bars and eateries located close to the theatre. We then ventured onto the theatre for the performance. The theatre is easy to locate within Nottingham. With many car parks in easy reach, which are reasonably priced. There is also a tram stop immediately outside the theatre. Transport links for the theatre are good,
The atmosphere inside the theatre was buzzing. The turnout for the performance was high, with a wide range of ages and genders. Our seats were within the stalls area. They were centre stage and close to the front. We had an excellent view!
The performance had been well though out and captured all key parts of the film within it. There was one clear strong message which was evident. This was that love can be an amazing thing, however, it can be very dangerous and destructive. Although the stage settings were minimal they were so effect and worked well. The performance takes you to the dark side and allows you to see the true psychopath that is Alex. It is psychopath behaviour at its best.
Kim Marsh played Alex one of the main characters – the other woman. Alex was a high flying professional lady with a direct and manipulative personality. She always liked to get what she wanted ! She would do anything and everything she could to ensure she achieved this. She self harmed and cried wolf in attempts to get her own way and to keep the man. When you watch it does make you realise that betrayal can have nasty repercussions. Were the two hot sexual encounters really worth the all of the aftermath?
Oliver Farnsworth played Dan Gallagher, the main man in the performance. Again a high flying city type who oozed charm, charisma and he was easy on the eye with a warm and kind personality. Dan drops his guard twice and allows manhood take over and, the end result is it wrecks his whole life, marriage and family.
The performance had many scenes ranging from seductive, raunchy, aggressive, emotional and violent to name a few. It is truly heart breaking how cruel love can be.
Susie Amy played Beth Gallagher the wife. She played a good character. However, she was my least favourite. I think this was because she failed to spot what was sometimes the obvious.
The performance displayed scenes of self harm which were desperate attempts on Alex’s part to
make Dan remain with her and his unborn child. The self harm scenes started from their very first sexual encounter.
The special effects within the performance were good and realistic. The thing which I always remembered from the film was the boiling of the daughters pet rabbit. This performance lived up to my expectations as much to my surprise the pet boiling scene been incorporated.
The scene changes were smooth and truly helped set the picture and make the performance feel real and like you were living the moment.
I do not want to cover too much and spoil for any potential visitors. All I would say is get those tickets bought. It is a most enjoyable performance. It does have you on the edge of your seat. You will be shocked at the lengths Alex goes to in her attempts to keep Dan by her side.
Rating: True quality acting which takes things to another level. This performance is definitely a five star rating
