Great gift for my Granddaughter.

Little Tikes Little Baby Bum Sing Along Phone is suitable for children from 18 months to 3 years.

The toy arrived packed in the obligatory brown cardboard and inside the phone was presented packaged in a card box picturing the item and included full instructions for use.  It came with batteries included, but these are recommended for store use only and it is advised to change them prior to play.

The Little Tikes website provides the following information on size and weight.

  • Weight: 2.71 (kg)

And says: ‘The Little Baby Bum Sing-Along Phone by Little Tikes is the perfect interactive pretend play phone for babies and toddlers. The Sing-Along Phone brings kids’ favourite Little Baby Bum™ songs and characters to life while teaching them about numbers, colours, music, telling time, and more preschool skills. Best of all, little ones can pretend to call and talk to their favourite characters! Play and learn together with Little Baby Bum™ and Little Tikes.’

The outer casing of the phone is made of plastic and has a silver surround on the front and a royal blue back with a yellow twinkle star motive.  The screen has a display section at the top where the mode can be seen with the phone numbers/colours below and the green and red phone icons at the bottom.  At the side is the on off switch and volume control with two settings high and low.

The phone has 6 different modes.  The number mode counts from 1 to 9.  The colour mode speaks 9 different colours, including teal, which I thought was quite an unusual one for little ones. Piano mode, plays musical notes when the numbers are pressed.  Nursery rhyme mode plays a selection of popular tunes including if your happy and you know it, the wheels on the bus and old McDonald had a farm.  Incoming call mode includes 4 greetings and, 3 farewells and finally time mode allows the time to be set on the device.

Little ones always want to play with mum and dads phones, so with the Little Baby Bum Sing-a-long Phone they can have their very own first phone.  It is quite a chunky device for little hands, but the big number buttons are easy for little fingers to use.  Even on high volume mode I don’t think the sound would be too intrusive for others in the room.  I think that this could be a great way for little ones to learn to count and to recognise colours and speak the words to go with them.  The repetition will enable them to remember and recite nursery rhymes and to join in with the songs.  This toy could be useful for parents to encourage little ones  speech and memory.

My granddaughter is 19 months old and this will be a brilliant toy for her as she is just starting to talk.  She is very bright and tries to copy sounds so this will encourage her learning and keep her little fingers away from mum and dads phones whilst providing hours of fun.

Overall I think this is a great toy to keep young children entertained, but also good to use as an educational tool.  With Christmas coming soon it would make a super gift and won’t break the bank.
