We were given the opportunity to try out and review an interesting type of puzzle recently; a 500 piece 3D one! On opening the parcel, the cover stands right out as it looks quite unusual. Our one had a number of dinosaurs on, and it took me a minute to work out that the reason it looked a bit strange is because the cover of the box was 3D also!
When we opened the box we discovered 2 pairs of 3D glasses and poster, along with all the puzzle pieces. We could therefore see what the puzzle would look like when it was completed, by having a look at the box lid! The dinosaurs really jumped out, with an excellent 3D effect that quite takes you by surprise. The box is made of sturdy cardboard and while that might be a strange observation, I have found that other puzzles often have boxes that can tear or break easily, so the construction of the box was reassuring, and quite classy.
The interesting thing about the poster is that it is the exact same dimensions as the finished puzzle. Often I find that I can’t quite visualise how big a finished puzzle is going to be, so to have the poster as a convenient guide was really helpful. The completed puzzle size is 48.5 x 34.5cm so can be easily done on a small table, and doesn’t get in the way.
The box contains a lovely note about the company, Cloudberries, which explains that the puzzle is sustainably sourced and expertly cut, so that it’s that bit different from the rest. There is an invite to get in touch if you get stuck, if anything is missing, or if you just want to chat! Cloudberry even plants a tree for every puzzle sold so they are the gift that keeps on giving. They are designed in the UK and made in Europe.
The puzzle pieces are good quality. Sometimes I find that puzzle pieces can peel really easily, and then don’t fit properly. These don’t feel like they will do that, due to the quality. The pieces are actually finished with a durable linen finish to avoid glare, which is a lovely extra touch. The puzzle is a little deceptive in that you think you’re going to finish it really quickly, however due to the 3D element it is harder to construct than you think! The finished puzzle is quite striking, and you can enjoy it in all its glory with the 3D glasses.
Cloudberries do several different puzzles in a variety of sizes; in 500, 1000 and 2000 pieces. They have designs which are abstract, challenging, cool, easy, gradient and modern. Some are 3D, and some not, so there is a great variety to choose from. The gradient ones look particularly challenging as they don’t contain a pattern, and have a gradient from one colour to another! I was pleased to see puzzle bundles available, and even puzzle subscriptions where you can get a different puzzle every month.
These puzzles would be a great gift for the “puzzle nerd” in your life, and there are lots suitable for either kids or grown-ups. I discovered afterward we finished the puzzle that the dino one is actually classed as challenging, which would explain why I found it trickier! It was still very enjoyable, and I’d gladly get more of these. I’m very tempted to get a 2000 piece challenging one next!
Rating: I would give this product a rating of 5 out of 5.
