As an old fashioned hair dryer and hair brush kinda girl using an air styler was a new experience for me with mixed results.
At first look after opening the box I was pretty impressed with the air styler. It is sleek and impressive in design. It came with 4 different attachments for versatility. A 20mm brush perfect for fringes and shorter hair, 38mm thermal brush for big hair and waves, concentrator nozzle for drying and straightener attachment for smoothing. These are easily interchangeable by simply pushing them into the base and twisting them to lock them into place. There is a release button on the side for removal. It has two heat/speed settings so suitable for all hair types and a cool shot button to set your style. So has everything you would expect from a conventional hair dryer but so much more.
As per the instruction manual before using the air styler I washed and towel dried my hair so that it wasn’t dripping wet. As my hair is quite long I decided to give it a blast with the concentrator nozzle before using the brushes as it was still quite wet even after towel drying it. After using this for a few minutes my hair was dryer but still quite damp. I applied some styling product to my hair as I normally would before drying it and then used the large brush attachment. As an air styler novice I wasn’t sure if there was a specific knack to using it so I just used it as I would if I was doing it with a separate brush and hairdryer. I ran the air styler through my hair on the higher heat/speed setting from under my hair starting at roots and working my way down. When my hair was nearly dry I lowered the heat/speed setting so I could use the brush to style the ends of my hair and used the cool shot button to set it. I tried using the big brush to wave my hair but couldn’t achieve waves like on the pictures on the box. It just really created waves in the bottom section of my hair. Maybe this would work better on shorter hair. You really need to start trying to create the waves whilst the hair is damp as trying to create the waves in almost dry hair got the brush stuck in my hair! The smaller brush was ideal for my fringe and the layers in my hair around my face. The straightener attachment was useful for smoothing the hair when wearing it straight. The air styler uses the latest ionic technology to achieve salon smooth hair at home. My hair was definitely smoother, shinier and softer after using this compared to when I dry it with a hairdryer. The cool shot button you push up then it stays on which is a lot easier than on my hair dryer which you have to keep the cool shot button pushed down with your finger to use it. The long power lead swivels round which makes it a lot easier to turn the styler in your hand especially when doing waves or the back of your hair.
I am definitely an air styler convert now and won’t be going back to using a hair dryer. It was so much easier to use the air styler than trying to balance using a hairdryer and brush at the same time. My hair had more volume, looked thicker, looked less frizzy and felt super smooth. It took me longer to dry/style my hair than normal as it was less powerful than my normal hair dryer but not that much longer and the result was so much better. I can’t compare it to other air stylers on the market, never having used one before but for the retail price and all the attachments that you get it’s definitely value for money.
