Sometimes finding the perfect present for that special someone can be challenging, especially if they seem to have everything!

Star Name Registry are a web based gift company that provides you with the opportunity to uniquely name a star after someone -with whatever wording you chose.

The website offers three main options; standard star (costing £19.99), extra bright star (costing £29.99) and extra bright star gift set (costing £49.99). There are other packages on offer as well where you can name two stars (good as a wedding or anniversary gift perhaps?), a poster of how the stars look on a certain date and even one with a projector showing the stars!

All packages offer entry into the star registry, where they promise that your star will be uniquely named by you and they won’t name it again. A4 star name deed, star map and a confirmation letter. The extra bright star package additionally ensures you will get a bright star so you will be able to find it easier in the galaxy and the gift set gives you an A4 wooden certificate frame and black presentation box.

On all packages you also get access to the app where you can locate your star in the galaxy.

My son is currently fascinated by space and so this was the perfect gift for his upcoming 12th birthday.

You can have up to 60 characters for your star name so go wild! We chose a simple “N’’s 12th birthday star”.

We received the extra bright star gift set and it came delivered in a wooden cardboard box. The black presentation is of course excellent quality. On the certificate it tells you the location of your star and you can also add on a personal message.

He was absolutely delighted with the gift and the first thing he wanted to do was, of course, see his star!

It is very simple to see your star on the website or on the Find my Star app. All you need to do is type in the reference number for your star which can be found on the certificate.

It is possible to view the star on Google Sky, Nasa Sky view and the ESO archive. You can share your star on the usual social media outlets

Seeing the star in the nightsky I think will take some specialist help so we will be contacting our local observatory which will be fun! If you have any special requests however, the customer support are very helpful with any questions you may have.

We read about the constellation and it said that it is most visible in the northern hemisphere in July. Luckily we have a camping trip planned for then so we will definitely be looking out for the constellation in the sky with our friends.

Of course, you could also name a star after a loved one who has passed away. This sounds like the perfect memorial to them and gives you that lasting memory so they will always feel close when you can see them in the night sky.

Personally I think naming a star is one of the most unique and thoughtful gifts that you can give someone and it is definitely very special and memorable.
