I love having limited edition artwork in my home and actively sort out local artists and designers to bring life to my walls. As I am coming to the end of building works and practically all my rooms need redecorating, I have been looking around for small but distinctive pieces to fit in with the new décor so I jumped at the chance to review one of Hannah Turlington’s lino prints, especially as I one of my favourite art genres.

Living and working in North Yorkshire Hannah provides lino prints onto both paper and fabric creating an array of beautiful products to buy in her online shop. She also provides bespoke commissions, so if you have a particular idea that you would like her to transfer to paper or fabric she is more than happy to do that for you.

If you are creative and fancy having a go yourself, and I certainly do, you can join one of her workshops where you will learn everything you need to take home a printing block and a bespoke handmade item made with your block. Workshops include lampshade or tealight printing and making, two different fabric printing workshops where you will learn how to create a block and repeat to make cushions or aprons and two different types of lino cutting & printing to make yourself some bespoke artwork to take home. All materials, coffee and cake are included so I thought these seemed great value at around £90 per workshop.

All of the lino prints start in the same way, with an idea transferred to paper. The illustration is then transferred via tracing paper to the lino and carved out in reverse with specialist carving tools. Then when the block is pressed to paper or fabric the print comes out the correct way and not back to front.

There are four, word style prints on the shop, Kind, Hope, Nurture and Love and I was sent Nurture. It’s a gorgeous blue black design on white paper depicting a mother bird feeding her babies. Their beaks are open as she lovingly feeds them worms in the nest whilst the leaf design around the nest makes a striking love heart “frame” around the birds. Beneath the picture is just the word Nuture all in the same blue black colour. I loved the coloured it is softer than black but still really shows up against the paper and will look stunning when framed. The think I like most about it is that you can see all on the lino cuts clearly and distinctively really showing off the design.

The design I was sent was one of a range of similar A4 designs at £15.00, again good value for money, with other ranges, some colour, some black & white, at £35.00 per print. My design came hand signed in pencil and marked original lino print which really finished it off nicely, the prints would make the perfect gift if you are looking for a Mother’s day or birthday gift.

I highly recommend the lino prints from Hannah Turlington designs; I just wish I lived a bit closer so that I could easily get to one of her workshops as they sound fabulous.
