We have used wall stickers before and they simply came in a roll without any further instruction. We needed to look up on You Tube to try to find out how best to fix the sticker to the wall.
The experience at Icon Stickers and Wall Murals was so different. From the moment we emailed them to enquire, the communication was prompt and always helpful.
Originally, we intended to buy a mural from the artists section of their website here.
The designs are fabulous, inspiring and creative. There is so much choice. However my daughter had her heart set on a rainbow room and so that’s what we had to go for.
You can purchase stickers and murals of all sizes, but we went for the largest size available for the rainbow. It arrived really quickly and well packaged. We received a huge carboard roll which protected the sticker well.
We took out the sticker and left it open flat for a few hours before starting the process of transferring it to the wall.
NOTE: DO not put your sticker on a freshly painted wall. It needs at least 3 weeks between painting and sticking.
Given the size of our sticker, this was definitely a two-person job. However, the kids were too excited and needed to help! The sticker comes with an A4 set of simple instructions to follow. They are really clearly written and easy to understand. However, if you’d rather watch someone else do it, they also provide a link to a “how to” video which takes you through it step by step.
The first job is to masking tape your sticker to the wall in the position you want it to be in. This was quite hard for us as the rainbow had no straight sides and the bottom of the application paper wasn’t straight, so a spirit level didn’t help on this occasion and it took us a couple of tries to get it straight enough. This would be a tip actually, if the bottom of the application paper could be cut straight before delivery or when you get it home, this may make it easier to apply straighter onto the wall.
You then “anchor” the sticker by putting masking tape the whole way across the middle of the sticker and sticking it to the wall (see picture below). You then remove the backing paper on the top half of the sticker being careful to avoid any air bubbles. We had a squeegee to hand to help push out any air bubbles, working from the middle towards the outer edge. However, another good tip from Icon was to use a credit card and this worked much better – being careful not to rip the sticker though. One way to avoid any rips is to keep the application paper on until you have ironed out any bubbles, but if you pull the application paper away and the sticker hasn’t stuck properly – don’t worry, you simply push back the application paper and rub over the edge of the sticker again and that worked well.
Once you have repeated these steps for the bottom half, all that is left is for you to step back and appreciate the results! Our little daughter is so thrilled with her new rainbow room. It was such a good value way of brightening up a room or changing its theme without having to totally redecorate.
Our sticker cost just £38.50 (as there is currently a half price sale on many of the stickers on the site. Prices start from as little as £8! Depending on the size and style chosen.
