We love a games night in our house and we were so pleased for a new one to arrive. Perfect timing as we seem to have exhausted all our existing options in the current lockdown situation. We have been looking for new fun things to keep us occupied at home so I could not wait to give Rummikub a try. The box arrived perfectly intact tightly wrapped in cellophane with the objective of the game written on the box as well as a picture of the game in use which let us know what to expect. None of us have played Rummikub before so we were all beginners and knew little about how to play. We were not disappointed.
The game is sturdy and well made, it consists of 106 plastic tiles and 4 racks that are good quality and built to last. There are 104 coloured tiles numbered 1-13 in red, black, blue and yellow-there are 2 sets of each. There are also 2 jokers which can be used as any number of the same colour. If you are a fan of card games in particular rummy/gin rummy then you will have no issues grasping the rules of this game as the principles are similar. If not then a few practice rounds and careful reading of the detailed instructions will soon start you off. Rummikub is an exciting game of strategy, the objective is to be the first to lay down all of your tiles in runs or sets and by gaining the highest score. We quickly became competitive which added all the more to the fun.
The part of Rummikub that is the most enjoyable is manipulating the tiles of the other players to form more sets and runs of your own. This takes some practice to become skilled at and there are many ways you can do this which are helpfully detailed in the instructions along with clear pictorial examples. Each player gets just one minute only to complete their turn which made it exciting and fast paced, a great rule if you have any slow burners in the family that can drag out their turn to make the shortest of games go on forever.
We loved the the fact this game could be played with a minimum of 2 people so we could play a grown up game just the two of us as well as together as a family. Great fun for all!
This game is a great investment to any collection and I can see it being pulled out on many an occasion in our home for years to come, it’s high quality and will stand the test of time. I would recommend this to lovers of cards and for those who like strategic games.
It definitely provided us with a fun evening of distraction and got our brains working, the bonus was spending quality time together as a family doing something we all enjoyed. I look forward to another round soon….especially as I won!
