Vie Naturals Hand Made Bali Soap Review

Reviewed by Katie Allen
Like many other people I’m trying to reduce my use of single-use plastics and as part of that I’m trying to switch from hand soap in a pump action bottle to individual bars.
The Vie Naturals Hand Made Bali Soap box set contains 4x 50g bars (also available as a 4x 100g bar set) in Frangipani, Rose, Lavender and Jasmine scents. The package was small enough to be delivered through the letter box and presented in a simple cardboard box. Inside the box an attractive gift bag was included which was a nice touch and great if you were planning to give the soaps as a gift although it’s worth noting that it can only fit 2 of the soaps comfortably.
At 50g the soaps are quite small, but they fit our small downstairs bathroom’s sink perfectly. As I’m trying to reduce my use of plastic, I was disappointed that each bar had a plastic wrapper but it was great to see on each label the minimal ingredients used: Coconut Oil, Water, Alkali (NaOH), Fragrance Oils and Dried Botanicals.
Each bar has its own unique fragrance which manages to permeate through the plastic wrapping. The Frangipane has a fresh smell and the bar is an attractive red. As you would expect the Rose bar is a gorgeous rosy pink and has a slight rose petal aroma. The Jasmine bar is an exotic green and perfumes the whole bathroom with its Jasmine scent. It’s my favourite. One sniff of the purple Lavender bar transported me to a relaxing spa and I can’t wait to start to use it. They all smell so gorgeous I intend to pop the ones I’ve not tried yet into my clothes drawers until I need to use them.
Once unwrapped the true beauty of the hand made soaps hit me. They have such a tactile texture with their marbling effect and the colours really pop when you stack them up. They could make a simple but attractive Christmas gift; maybe combined with some other toiletries in a hamper, wrapped in a ribbon and hung as a Christmas Tree present or even a stocking filler.
I’ve only used the Jasmine one so far, but I was impressed with how quick it was to lather – especially in our area of hard water. It rinses off clean without residue but leaves the pleasant Jasmine scent on my hands for some time.
According to the Vie Naturals website the base, coconut, oil provides a healthy lather that cleans and leaves your skin feeling moisturised. The soaps are made using the cold process method which produces a bar full of natural glycerine. Most soaps on the market remove this glycerine but Vie keeps it in because it is a humectant, which helps attract moisture to the skin and can be gentle enough for even the driest and most sensitive of skin. There are no Parabens, no Phthalates, no Sulphates and are suitable for all skin types.
In summary I am impressed with these soaps and can’t wait for my house to be filled with their gorgeous scents while we use them every day.
