MP Michael Phelps Children’s Arm Floats Review

Reviewed by Julie Powell

If you’d have asked me two months ago do your boys enjoy swimming, I would have looked at you with a saddened look in my eyes and shock my head, however  if you were to ask me the same question again today I would happily smile and say yes! Both boys have never had a great love of water and after hearing so many saddening stories over summer of children getting into difficulty in the water I felt the time has come to finally pursue the swimming route as I feel like most parents do that swimming just isn’t a hobby it is a potentially lifesaving skill to learn. So, I took the plunge and enrolled my two boys into swimming lessons at our local pool and after a hesitant start they are finally making great progress.

The next hurdle then approached “mummy can you take us swimming at the weekend” they asked – as a single parent with two non-swimmers it had always been a bit of a challenge as our local pool has quite a strict adult:child pool ratio policy but as I felt both boys were now at a stage where they were comfortable in the water I felt the time had come where I was able to take them myself.

So, when I received the MP Michael Phelps swim method arm floats they came at just the right time as I was finding it hard to know what buoyancy aid to get for the boys as there is a vast choice of different types of products on the market these days.

The MP swim method arm bands are very much like the traditional arm band I used to use as a kid but just with a more modern smoother comfortable look to them as they have a soft fabric shell to them. They come in two different sizes which are:

  • Target age 2-3 years/ 33-39lbs
  • Target age 3-6 years/ 39-66lbs

And they also come in a choice of green/blue or pink/purple.

We received the age 3-6 ones as they cover both boys ages and weights, the arms bands fitted both boys comfortably in the correct place which was between the inside of the elbow and the armpit as they have an internal inflatable bladder I was able to get a proper fit on both boys although the valve was a bit tricky to figure out initially, but as the valve is used only to secure the fit they are a lot quicker to put on than the ones where you have to inflate and deflate the entire arm band.

So off to the pool we went, during our time there I tried them out on both boys and they both seemed very happy wearing them with no complaints, they allowed us to play happily and safely in the water.

I think these armbands would make a great gift especially with Christmas coming up for any one just starting out on their swimming journey and know that we will get a great deal of use out of them.

The only downside to them I felt was the size, whilst they are great for taking to the local pool as they come in a mesh drawstring bag so the boys can easily carry them, however if I was to take two pairs away on holiday with me, albeit they are extremely lightweight, they would take up a fair amount of room in the suitcase and be a bit bulky.

I would give these arm bands 4 out of 5 stars.
