The Tullie Inn is a perfect spot for a couples’ getaway or family break. Set in the village of Balloch, it’s a peaceful haven and stepping stone to Loch Lomond a mere 30 minutes’ drive from Glasgow.

The Inn has recently undergone a serious overhaul and the end result is striking. There’s a lovely glasshouse area out front where you can watch the world go by while sampling some of the local treats from the well-priced dinner menu. The rump steak with parmesan and rosemary fries was a thing of beauty, and our one-year old gave the homemade mac and cheese a suitably sticky thumbs up. The same goes for the jelly and ice cream they brought her out for afters!

A decent sized wine list and wide selection of artisan beers will whet your whistle, and there’s plenty going on in the evening. It was Ladies Night when we stayed over, and a mix of cocktail making, hair styling, pampering and jewellery stalls drew a good crowd of guests and locals.

Our room was nicely proportioned and big enough to stick our youngster’s cot down one end so we could carry on reading and watching the TV after she’d gone to sleep. The Tunnock’s Teacakes in the tea and coffee basket was a fantastic touch – safe to say they didn’t last long!

We rounded off our stay with a delicious full Scottish breakfast. Just the thing to start the day – and you won’t need to eat again for the rest of it! As with the dinner restaurant and bar staff, the service couldn’t have been more slick or friendly.

When you head out the front door, you’re ideally placed to make a day of it at one or more of the stop-off points on the loch. The Lomond Shores complex, with shops, restaurants and an aquarium, is just down the road, and if you fancy a boat trip, the departure point is literally opposite the Inn.

For those without cars, the train station, with regular departures to Glasgow Queen Street, is right next door. You don’t hear any noise from it, so you’ve got the best of both worlds there.

Really couldn’t find fault with any aspect of our experience – highly impressed and highly recommended!
