My daughter and I were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to review Russell Kane’s performance.
We arrived in Buxton shortly after 7pm and we were able to park very close to the theatre. The parking was free of charge and we were very close to the park. Prior to getting our tickets we decided to have a stroll in the lovely park, as it was a very nice evening.
We then proceeded to the theatre to collect our tickets. We were greeted at the door way by one of the theatres employees. She was very pleasant and friendly. She advised that we would need to go to the box office to collect our tickets. We immediately went to the box office counter as there was no queue our tickets where there waiting for us. No delays were encountered the tickets were handed straight to us. Two box office windows were open that evening. The theatre was adequately staffed and every employee we came into contact with was most helpful, polite and very friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. People started to arrive ready for the performance.
We were directed to our seats by theatre staff. Our seats where in the dress circle on the balcony. The audience was a mixture of both young and more mature people. The theatre was quite full. 8 o’clock arrived and Russell Kane entered. Within seconds of him appearing the audience were in stitches with his humour. He spoke with the audience and about Buxton and got them involved. He made jokes in good humour with regard to the audience. He show was about the experiences he had whilst growing up. My daughter is 15 and prior to going to the show I was concerned whether she would enjoy it and whether it would be appropriate for her. I have to say she found it highly amusing and had a great time. He did swear throughout the performance but it was not offensive.
No matter what your age this performance delivers a huge amount of laughs out loud moments, with the second half in particular leaving the audience in stitches as Russell die forged his joyous (if somewhat terrifying!) tales of parenthood, family and his new-found maturity and, outlook on life since tying the knot. He was never still whilst on the stage, removed with speed both dancing and pirouetting.
Russell tested out his theory on the audience that every strong relationship requires one hyper and one chilled out partner.
The second half gave an insight into Russell’s emotional experiences as a father, mixed with some hysterical awkward, yet endearing father daughter moments which pulled on the heart strings.
Russell even threw in some scientific baby facts for good measure.
By the end of the show you were left thinking that there is no such thing as being the ‘right age’ in life.
Buxton is a lovely theatre to visit, the staff are welcoming, helpful and polite. It offers a couple of bars for refreshments with snacks on offer. The toilets are clean and hygienic.
Russell Kane is one top class comedian.
