After a botched assignment where he could not kill a target CIA black ops agent Emerson Kent (John Cusack) is seen as unfit for fieldwork and is giving a last chance, he is sent to England to work in the top secret CIA Numbers Station. His job is to babysit code operator Katherine (Malin Akerman).
Numbers Stations are used to transmit top secret coded and untraceable messages using numbers to field agents. For over 70 years the code had not been compromised until now.
Emerson and Katherine return for their next shift to find the station has been attacked and 15 messages were sent out. They are now thrown into a life-or-death struggle to crack the codes and cancel the previous messages and get out alive.
Overall, The Numbers Station is a good cat-and-mouse thriller. John Cusack as the brooding Emerson Kent is great. Most of the film is in a dark, concrete bunker and still manages to hold your interest without high-speed car chases involved. With a well-written script and superb performances from Cusack and Akerman it is definitely worth watching.
