If you are a bit of a foodie, or even if you’re not, you NEED to head to Cuisson POPdown. With a delicious offering of innovative, high-end food at £39 for 7 courses what’s not to love!?
The chefs are trained at some of the world’s top restaurants – think La Gavroche, The Fat Duck and Le Cinq – so you know the experience is going to be good….
Arriving at the centrally located Borough Barista (only a short walk from Piccadilly Circus), we didn’t really know what to expect – to be honest, it looked like an average coffee shop from the outside but we were wonderfully surprised once we made our way to the spacious basement, where we found ourselves amongst chefs at work next to several large communal dining tables, creating a cosy, relaxed atmosphere – and the shared dining space allowed us to get to know our fellow diners.
The chefs themselves were very open and happy to discuss the different techniques and ingredients going into each dish. As part of the immersive dining experience, you’re actually encouraged, as a diner, to take part in plating the food (only some bits though – and after my terrible excuse for plating it might have been best to leave it to the professionals!).
The menu itself was very simple and didn’t give too much away, and I don’t want to give too much away, but think of unusual flavor and texture combinations (Watermelon carpaccio anyone?) and you’ll be half way there. BUT THE FOOD! Wow! 7 courses might sound quite daunting but the portion size and flavours were balanced excellently to leave you feeling comfortably full. In amongst the chatter and delicious (and modestly priced) wine, my friend and I feasted on a variety of simply amazing dishes – from the cucumber buttermilk soup to the fermented sausage with my personal favourite being the scrumptious white chocolate dessert yum!
So, make sure you grab your friends and pop down to this POPdown – be quick as it’s only on this Summer, every Thursday to Saturday, and tickets are selling fast. The menu is seasonal so it changes almost weekly too – I think that might just be the best excuse for me to go for another try….
A grandiose 5 out of 5 from this reviewer.
