Brewers Fayre Cottams Field Lancaster Review

Reviewed by Catherine Dolan
What a wonderful afternoon my family, guests and I had the opening event of Brewers Fayre Fun Factory in Cottams Field in Lancaster.
Having never been to Cottams Field in the past, it was great to be invited along to the VIP event on July 4th for the grand opening of the newly refurbished play zone. On arrival we were welcomed by a very pleasant, warm and friendly Tina O’Neil who is the General Manger. We were quickly shown to our tables and informed of all that was available for the children in the play zone. The children (aged 3 and 7) were given yellow bracelets to wear and Christian, the member of staff in the play zone was amazing with the children, keeping them refreshed with orange juice, showing them where they could get face painting done as well as an arts and crafts area. The young ones were kept amused for well over an hour in the bright, cheerful, clean Beano theme décor. Although we had to queue for the face painting, Christian kept the children entertained and the face painting was well worth the wait. I would recommend Rebecca Waite (the facepainter), her artistic skills were immense and the kids loved it!!
The whole play zone has been totally refurbished, new tables, new chairs, large TV screens, canopies with different Beano characters hanging from the ceiling as well as large comic sized prints on the walls. Dennis was wondering around for the afternoon and although he was happy to chat and wave to children, he was equally happy to avoid those who were a bit intimidated by him (my 7 year old being one of them). All of the staff, Emma Jane, Charlotte, Danielle, Christian and Tina were friendly and attentive.
Whilst the children were playing, Tina advised us of the tea/coffee/Pepsi/Diet Pepsi/Lemonade and Tango that was available for us. Being part of the VIP event, these were free for us but in normal circumstances a customer would purchase one drink and then have unlimited refills which is great value. We also pre-ordered our food at this time which was due to arrive at 4.30pm. We were able to choose from a good selection of pub favourites that were part of the 2 for £10 deal and dessert from the 2 for £2.50 deal, very good value. Tina also took the time to chat with us and explain all the amazing things that Cottams Field are offering for babies/toddlers/ and kids. Cottams Field are open from 9.30am Monday – Friday, offering various activities throughout the week. For example, Nursery Rhyme for toddlers, which is played out on the big screen with beanbags for them to sit on, sing a long time, DVD time, toddler disco, after school disco for the older kids and many others. I would certainly recommend contacting them to find out what is available.
As promised, our food arrived at 4.30pm. We had amongst other things the Smothered Chicken (Grilled chicken breast topped with bacon and melted Cheddar cheese, served with chips coleslaw, garlic bread, a lightly dressed salad garnish and BBQ sauce), followed by Caramel Apple Betty (Shortcrust pastry tart filled with apple, topped with a crunchy crumble and a drizzle of caramel. Served warm with custard). The portion sizes were adequate and the food was warm and appetising. All plates and dessert plates were cleared, including my fussy 3 year olds! The kids chose burgers and hot dogs as their mains which were served in little baskets with a Dennis the Menace napkin, a nice little touch, followed by mini doughnuts with caramel sauce and an ice cream.
After spending over 2 hours in Cottams Field we left feeling very happy and contented. I would certainly recommend it highly. I am so pleased to have been able to take part in their VIP opening event.
