Play at Brewers Fayre Gateway Park Lincoln Review

Reviewed by Tracey Flintham

We attended the opening of the new “Play at Brewers Fayre” area at the Gateway Park in Lincoln on Saturday 4th July.  The pub itself is easy to find and is conveniently located between Lincoln and Newark with plenty of free parking. The event started at 3.15pm and we arrived a little before this time. We were greeted by 2 members of staff who directed us to the correct area pointing out where our table was and where to get drinks from.

After leaving our things at the table, the girls were keen to dash off to the play area. They were greeted by Dennis the Menace and Gnasher at the entrance to the play area and stopped for a couple of photos before whizzing off up the play equipment. The play area is really light and airy, with an area for older children and a toddler section. The room is decorated throughout with a Dennis the Menace theme including a Dennis the Menace carpet. The play equipment has 3 levels with slides, rope bridges and tunnels. The toddler area had lots of big bean bags for relaxing on, large cubes to build towers and ‘on the wall’ jigsaw puzzles.

After dashing around the play area, the girls decided to have their faces painted and whilst they were having this done, we heard over the announcement system that our food was ready so we headed back to our table. The restaurant itself was clean throughout and nicely air conditioned. I had chosen the smothered chicken for my main meal and it was a nice quality, good sized portion. My husband had the chicken tikka masala which he enjoyed. Meanwhile the children were eating their spaghetti beano-ese and they cleared their plates in no time. The staff were all very polite and attentive and coming to check everything was ok with our meals.

After the meal, the girls wanted to go back into the play area and happily played for another 90 minutes. The “den” area was now laid out with bean bags, craft activities and they both laid out on the bean bags watching the cartoons on the big screen for the last 30 minutes.

Overall I was very impressed with the organisation of the event and the play area is very nice. There are also tables laid out at the back of the play area so you could sit and eat your meal in there and still supervise your children if they want to go off and play whilst you’re still eating. The toilets are conveniently located for the play area and another feature I liked was that the doors to the entrance of the play area were quite heavy so small children couldn’t escape easily and there was a gap between the 2 doors to ensure no trapped fingers.

All in all we had a super afternoon, my girls thoroughly enjoyed using the new play area and I will be checking out other Brewers Fayre pubs in my area.
