Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep Machine Review

Reviewed by Sammy-Jo Mason

I must admit I was genuinely excited to review this product as I have heard nothing but praise for it, and was told that I will wonder how I ever coped without it! I certainly wasn’t disappointed!

The Perfect Prep machine is specially designed to make preparing bottles quicker and more accurate. Tommee Tippee say that the Perfect Prep gives you the extra peace of mind that comes from knowing your baby’s bottle will be perfect every time. It boasts the following features

*It makes a fresh bottle at correct temperature in less than 2 minutes.
*Filter system removes impurities present in water.
*Initial ‘hot shot’ of water kills bacteria that may be present in formula.
*Dispenses correct amount of water for a more accurate and consistent dilution.

The Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep was delivered in a neat medium sized box which had lots of pictures and diagrams on it. Once opened it was all packaged neatly and securely and found the instruction leaflets conveniently on the top for me to read.

The box contained:
1 x Perfect Prep machine
1 x 150ml Filter
1 x 150ml Closer To Nature bottle

The instruction leaflet is in colour and very informative with step-by-step guides with pictures which were very simple and easy to understand. It describes how to set up the machine and perform a cleaning cycle along with how to actually use the machine, how to stop it if needed, maintenance and descaling.

When you first unpack the machine you need to complete a cleaning cycle to ensure that the machine itself is clean and ready for filtering your tap water. This was very simple and straightforward to do and takes about ten minutes when following the step-by-step guide and pictures. Once the cleaning/set-up cycle has finished you will need to fill up the hopper (water tank) with cold water. There is a measurement display on the front of the machine so I have been topping mine up every now and then so I have always got about two thirds full.

The actual process of making up a feed is really straightforward and simple and I will admit I still get a little excited pressing the buttons (that’s my inner child!). You select how many ounces you want using the dial and place your sterilised bottle under the dispenser making sure the top of the bottle is as close as it can be to the dispenser (this can be made higher/lower using the adjustable stand/drip tray). You then press the start/stop button, the light will flash red and a shot of hot water is dispensed into the bottle, when it’s finished doing this the machine will beep twice (quite loudly). After these beeps you have 2 minutes to mix your formula with the hot water, once the formula has completely dissolved, place the bottle back onto the stand and press the start/stop button once more. The light will flash green whilst the rest of the water is being dispensed, the double beep sound will indicate that the bottle is now ready and the flashing green light will become solid green. Finally the last step is to add the teat and lid, give the bottle a shake and you’re good to go!! The bottle has been made to the desired ounce at a temperature which is perfect to give to your baby straightaway. Probably out of habit, but I do check the temperature and correct ounce level before giving to my daughter. I used MAM bottles as this is the type bottle my daughter prefers and I had no issues with it fitting on the stand, the Perfect Prep will accommodate every bottle.

The Perfect Prep has several warning lights that alert you to several things such as water level low, filter needing changing, water tank hot, and when the machine needs de-scaling all of these tasks are simple to carry out by following the instruction booklet and diagrams.

The machine itself is not as bulky as I imagined and after setting it up next to my Tommee Tippee steriliser I still have plenty of kitchen work surface left. This piece of gadgetry for parents is worth its weight in gold in my opinion and because it is a ‘gadget’ my partner has developed an obsession with making our daughters bottles (one less job for me!) which means I get to spend extra time with my daughter which is the most important thing.

My only issue with the Perfect Prep is how loud the beep is, it’s actually made me jump on a few occasions!

My daughter is 5 months old and I wish I had the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep machine from the moment she was born as I could have saved precious time and prevented unnecessary screaming by using it! The idea is so simple and I will never go back to nearly scolding myself several times a day making up bottles the traditional way. I would highly recommend this product to any parent or parent to be, it really is a must have with a formula fed baby.

I really can’t rate this product highly enough and can find hardly any faults with it, other than the beep being too loud and for a newborn baby it would be useful to be able to make a bottle up smaller than 4oz’s, as from my own experience I would have ended up wasting quite a lot of formula (which isn’t cheap) as my daughter didn’t take 4oz bottles until about 15/16 weeks old. This being said, the positives far outweigh the 2 small negatives that I have mentioned. The positive comments I had heard and read regarding this product all live up to expectation and it fully deserves the hype surrounding it. Congratulations Tommee Tippee on the invention of a genius product!
