Following the highly successful first series (BBC 2’s most watched drama in 2013 with over 4 million viewers), The Fall is back for series 2. The Fall is a clever, gripping and gritty police drama set in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
DSI Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson) from the Metropolitan Police in London is still in Belfast helping the PSNI (Police Service of Northern Ireland) in the hunt for serial killer Paul Spector (Jamie Dorman). At the end of series 1 Spector told Gibson that she would never catch him and disappeared but he has left behind a survivor and Gibson is determined to get her to identify her attacker. This forces Spector to return to Belfast to tie up any loose ends and deal with someone from his past that is helping the police with the enquiries.
With the police on his trail and getting closer Spector has to take more risks and enlists the help of a 16 year besotted school girl to create alibis and destroy evidence.
But will Gibson be able to track the evil psychopath and put a stop to the killings?
Overall The Fall is an excellent, superbly acted by all gripping police drama. The slow build up and tension leaves you on the edge of your seat. Anderson and Dornan are once again both excellent in their roles (although at times Anderson seems to be able to speak without even opening her mouth), although Dornan, at least for me, steals the show in his portrayal of the fully functioning serial killer living out his life as killer and therapist.
The Fall is riveting right up to the final scenes but again left with an inconclusive ending making it as frustrating as the end of the first series. This does leave it open for a third series, although I can’t see how they can drag out another full series, but that remains to be seen.
All-in-all, The Fall is excellent and a series not to be missed. A great British drama.
The Fall Series Two will be available on DVD and Blu-ray from 26 December 2014 in a 2 disc set and a series 1 and 2 boxset will also be available on DVD.
